Cool, so selecting Large is sufficient? Or are there actual dimensions to go by? I would think you wouldn't want to spoil the surprise on the latter when it comes to circumnavigation.

The dimensions are those of a huge B&S. Happy to share them or for you to google them; but I'd need the file open with my computer in front of me.

So it sounds like I can just create a game with Huge B&S on Monarch and things should be fine. I really wouldn't need the dims in that case if this works.
OK, finally...starting screen analysis coming right up!

OK, so it looks like my choices are between SIP and 1s. Both are plains hills which is great. I thought blind 1S was gonna be a slam dunk, enough to consider just launching the Scout headlong into the world (2NE) because both starts are very similar.
--11 water tiles (both with one Ocean)
--7 forests
--1s trades Flood Plains for northern Crab
The main issue will come down to quick food access vs. the dotmap. SIP hastens the connection of Wheat/Crab, as well as setting on T0, but pushes out a 3-food site 1E of that northern crab. That site would only share 4 tiles with a 1s plant, the latter of which could possibly come with extra resources to make the delay worthwhile.
But the only way I'll know is by scouting it first. So we'll have to wait a turn or so to meet our first neighbor. With this killer group of rivals, I think I can live with that.
Next I'll have to figure out WB or Worker first, along with tech path I wish to pursue. Standard BW opening or Chariot rush? Can we build a Settler from scratch without BW? Guess I should probably check my install so that I can sim these things out.....

SIP comes with both north and south naval access, which is hard to overlook. It also means that 1s will need to yield us at least one more food resource in those bottom 3 tiles for me to even consider the move.

not considering 1SE ?
Compare to 1S, lose only water, gain more forrests, likely 1 FP ?

Hi Jabah, thanks for checking in!
Not really, mostly because it seems too far inland. I know coastal tiles are not the most sought after but they do give a good boost to commerce when needed, especially when food-sharing with other cities after a growth spurt. We're also a bit starved for commerce in the early stages here as it is. I also like CREs ability to remove more fog to our west should someone like Gav come calling along our shores, and a more westerly plant helps us there to a small extent.
You have made me consider moving the Scout SE instead of 1s though. Better eastern expansion plus investigating a possible SE plant plus still getting to view the only coastal tile I really care about in regards to 1s -- the one that can only be reached by that site (unless island). An extra Flood Plain would definitely put your SE site in the running, though I like the idea of SIP getting the crabs netted quickly to boost commerce and Settler production (maybe WB > Worker > WB)?
Looks like I'll need to move the scout and then do some extra simming for all 3 sites once all is revealed.

Remember we will be manually editing the save to Large, so tech costs will be exaggerated if you sim in Huge.

OK perfect, so I had it right the first time. I'll just set up the large Monarch game and plant myself in the middle. I should be fine since I won't be simming the whole world.
OK, I still owe you all:
8 Cautionary Tales
Tier List
SIP sim
Along with chariot rush, I am also going to investigate an Alphabet bulb, early religion and getting the Colossus or Great Lighthouse. Perhaps a longshot at 'Mids since the +3 ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) from Rep would pair nicely with our EXP health surplus. This makes early Monarchy a consideration as well since HR happiness via Quechuas would be easy, and eventually promotable if the extra tiles they allow turn a profit.
