I've only done it once and I was, uh, on the other end of it. But yes, brutal. That was basically my entire plan for this game... I was hoping that a small force of arty could kill a massively disproportionate amount of early game trash despite my weaker economy. Musketeers are interesting because they're not *quite* just trash, but they are still weak compared to arty.

Exciting times.
About the galleys. Since there is a 10% defence bonus on coast, can you find a coastal tile he needs to pass and park 2 galleys there? That would be the most efficient way to protect your work boats and coastal cities.

Yeah that's pretty much the plan. It's not that easy though... By the time I get 2 galleys of my own out he will have passed the best points to block. if I block the fish by Mons Meg he can go around, so I have to choose between blocking or protecting the fish. Or myabe it's better to just move that galley down to wait for my 2nd. There's also that continent that gives him a way around.
In other news, Yuri lost a city to Scooter this turn. Also a great general was killed. Looks like Yuri is on his way out. I wonder what Scooter will do after finishing with Yuri? (hopefully not attack me)

Still no fireworks . Instead he moved to the side. Possibly preparing to go after my cities? That makes things very complicated! I'll do my best to defend but I just can't be everywhere at once.
After that image I moved everything to the hill. Charge! A very slow, 1-tile-per-turn charge...
off topic. You know what would have been a cool pick for this game? Celts + rocketry + protective/aggressive. cheap walls, free guerilla promo. Throw in a cheap barracks and you've got guerilla 2 SAM infantry!

By the way, I don't have much of a plan for this attack other than "hit Rheims." Until now I thought the grass tile SE of Orleans was a hill.. I was hoping for more protection if I moved towards Orleans.

So I guess the big news this turn is that Oxy and Scooter declared war on each other. For a second I thought they had both declared on me, simultaneously XD.
Meanwhile I've got some tricky tactial decisions to make. He abanonded Rheims except for 1 archer. Should I take it with axes (probably losing 1) or use an AT? I don't want to slow down. And dare I keep it...? It looks like it's on a peninsula with nothing behind it. But last turn it had 4 musketeers there, so they can always come back to take it back.
Meanwhile he's dribbling down musketeers 1 at a time. That might be a mistake I can take advantage of, since I've got some reinforcements coming up.

I have to write this out just to organize my thoughts.
First point: I'm scared to split my stack. That leads to defeat in detail. As long as my stack stays together, it can defeat a huge number of musketeers.
However, "huge" is not "infinite." I really, really need some reinforcements if he's going to keep making musketeers at his current rate. Sure would be nice to take a city and use it for myself.
But that city will take forever to pay off. Maybe 5 turns to come out of resistance, then another 10 turns before it can whip an AT? that's an eternity. I could whip an archer or something sooner but I'm not sure that really helps. So probably safer to just raze Rheims, right?
BUT, there's a catch. I'm 7 XP short of a GG. And I really think the GG could be huge. I don't exactly know where his units are, but there's a good chance that there's a stack of 8 musketeers headed my way. I can't possibly defend that with just 1 arty and 1 AT, but 1 GG drill 4 arty might be able to.
I could take Rheims with 1 AT. defend there on the hill, he'll likely need at least 2 musketeers to kill it. That would get me... 3 XP in all? 6GG points? Still 1 short. I'd lose the AT, but he'd lose (probably) 2 musketeers, decent trade.
Well, maybe I can make it up with those singleton musketeers moving down. But, maybe not. Nothing is guaranteed. Blegh.

I would raze the city in this situation. I do not see how you can defend it. Probably with an axe if it has 60%+ odds to win.

more like 18% for the first axe, so I'll have to use 2. But yeah, I think you're right.

hahaha my combat luck RNG continues! I won with the first axe at 17.6% odds .
That got me 5 XP and a GG...
Great city, I really wanted to keep it. It even had a granary. But I just can't afford to split my stack right now. Cairo's power has spiked and now exceeds mine:
No idea now where his stack is or what I should do next.
