Imperium One - Off to a Flying Start

Quote:"Pepe in space?!?!"

I wonder if we could dig up Jaffa and Cy from somewhere -- perhaps a cryo lab on an artifacts planet at Denubius -- and have them track down Fifi for us so poor Pepe won't be lonely out there among the stars. lol

What would really kill is if we end up fighting the Meklars (who are kind of shriveled and gray-looking, like old Ghandi) and they field against us... A FLEET OF JUMBOS! lol

I would faint dead away. :P

Hi,

thanks for your comments, and don't sweat for not replying to my report earlier - I don't expect you (or anybody else, for that matter) to make a meaningful comment on *every* report posted. eek And I don't need extra encouragement for playing the next Imperium, so don't worry. :P

Regarding the results, I'm actually in the process of collecting them right now and will send them to Gris probably tomorrow.

Hi everyone. I am swamped. I got the results from Kylearan this weekend, but haven't had time to put them into the site's template yet. However, looking at my week, I realize that I probably won't have time for at least a couple more days. Since Kylearan's table would work as is, I decided to just go ahead and put it up, no frills style (to get back to the site you have to *gasp* use the back button on your browser). Thanks, Kylearan, for taking the time to compile it, by the way! I think we need a goodjob smiley. :D

This was very, very easy from my end here. What I would like to know is if people care about how the results are presented. In the future, would it matter to you if the results were just a plain table? Would you rather possibly wait for prettier ones?

Let me know.

Edit- I suppose you all would at least like a link to the results page lol

Should the win list be ordered with the lowest year at the top? Just curious because the fastest finish seems to be the only way to 'score' the epics consistently, unless some ind of system like is used for IMP 2 is implemented for each.

Hi,

this first Imperium was specifically stated to be unscored, so the players were listed alphabetically, as per Sirian's request.

One note about fastest finish games or scoring systems that rely on it, to a large degree how fast you finish depends on how good of a start the AIs get (or how good a start you get relative to the AIs.) The die roll on how aggressively the AIs expand seems to change from game to game. I tried repeating my Imp1 start a number of times with me doing pretty much the same thing each time to see what would happen, and I got a wide variety of results depending on what the AI did. Something to keep a watch out on; player skill at managing the expansion phase is very important but the die roll on AI expansion is also a non-trivial factor.

One possible solution for some epics (not all, maybe not even most) would be to have the scenario creator play the game through the initial expansion phase until all fertile worlds in immediate range (range 3-5) are settled, and then start the imperium from that point. With a sufficiently good writeup of what had happened to that point, the scenario creator could even continue to participate since everyone should have roughly the same level of information about the game available.

I recall suggesting something like this to less than favorable response. People appear to want to make their own decisions/mistakes especially the people who plan on not making mistakes.

Hi,

indeed, I'm not sure I like to take over a game from the sponsor after the initial expansion phase - not because I think I do better in the beginning than others (I don't), but because I like to try out different things. For example in this Imperium, I chose to focus research only on propulsion in the beginning, even after getting the range tech, to get nuclear engines faster. I don't think anybody else did this. Is this better than spreading research more evenly? I don't know, but I would like to try out these things, which I cannot if I get a preplayed beginning.

Exceptions to this are okay, of course - for example, I had a lot of fun playing the Epic where Sirian played us the English into a deep hole and we had to take over. That had been fun! smile

If the AI expansion phase plays out so differently each time as Zed-F says, then this can indeed become problematic. I haven't seen that happen so much in this Imperium; let's see how the next one will go.
