[pb72 spoilers]: the esteemed gentleman's literature and book club

I've had open borders with Aetryn for ages. You'd think he'd have done enough scouting to know he is only going to get a bunch of B tier cities (much worse without MinInc or two free Rep specialists) with the direction he is going in. The only good way of splitting me with Bing would be to rush all of his troops towards Huckleberry Finn as soon as possible to claim Atlas shrugged and then Statue in Carmilla. But his stack is mostly 1 movers anyway, so that isn't going to happen. I just hope Mmjd doesn't drag out the game once he sees Creation fall.

A 2v1 against me seems more and more inevitable given the geography, but I could have held my core at least without the two tactical blunders that lost my big chunks of my army. Learning experience at least. If I sign up for a new game I want to just focus on the economy and get a teammate to worry about that stuff.

the fun times continue. bing has over 100 units in this stack, and most of them are just draftees. must be nice to have had land fertile enough to support repeated drafting - i am almost positive he has a globe theater setup somewhere. when i thought about how many more units i could have produced in nationhood, i kept thinking of where the hell i would even draft. a bunch of my cities have good hammer / beaker outputs, but have a food surplus of like +2 or 0 at size seven. He's also invading me near Atlas shrugged simultaneously - that side at least only had 3 cannons, so probably not enough to move further.

I bombarded with the cannons and promoted my units as far up the drill tree as they could go. Will it make a difference? No, because the deciding factor was loosing my phract stack and then a bunch of machine guns. It may or may not make this painful for him. But 40 fucking cannons will do work lol.

Aetryn: please concede soon.

aetryn grabs the physics scientists, so i guess this game is going to keep going for many more turns because he thinks he can pull some bullshit. sigh.

so, the game will probably be going on a while longer because aetryn made some plays. he got himself a Kremlin to fuel some powerful whips, and a golden age with the physics scientist. he did a ton of whips when his GA ended. i do not know if he intends to try and finish me off, or to slam into Bing and end the game. either way, from my perspective I am stuck, trying to get back my shrine city while Bing slowly muddles forward.

That surely sounds like an unenvious position. Is there any chance of assembling a lot of collateral to wipe his stack?

Unfortunately, no. Bing has something stupid like 100 units concentrated together - here there be 30 rifles, 25 cavs, 19 cannons, and assorted Infantry and junk.

Just managed to build up a 15 cannon stack, and I'm working on the hitters. If he tries blitzing with the cavs alone then I would be able to wipe those out. But there's no point in trying to save the diamond age.

Fun lategame fact that probably should be classified as a bug: if you are in mercantalism and you have your Corp HQ captured, the corp instantly disappears from all your cities, instead of just not working. So even if I captured Creation back I would need to re-spread it to all my cities again. Fun!

if aetryn wanted to attack bing, owing to the stellar map design, he can either attack through my core or go after bing's itty bitty xist colonies. he has no direct thrust at bing's territory. awesome!

That is definitely a bug.

I must admit, I find it funny how much everyone seems to dislike Krills maps (this and PB66), given the shit he gave me for rolling PB71.

I don't take this map as an indictment of his skills - it was rolled with a lackluster script and then pushed out quickly so the game could get going. I would have preferred a nicer, more handcrafted map, but it didn't seem like anyone was available to make one for this game.

But yeah, his comments about pb71 made no sense, given that was explicitly a random game.

Aetryn finally dropped the hammer and nuked what was left of xist's stack and took two cities off him. He has one left. So at least I won't be first to be eliminated this game. He is also waddling a stack towards Atlas shrugged. I should be able to get some defenders in that direction in time, but right now the main threat is bing pointing his mega stack at Republic. He has only 19 cannons this time instead of 40, so there is a chance it holds. Bing keeps asking for peace, but the only way he gets peace is if I get creation back. He can call it kingmaking if he wants, I need that city to be competitive.

Not all, but a few comments:
1) I had nothings against swines. If you had waited ~ 5 turns, both pastured swines would had a city.
2) I tried to defend what I could and what I needed. And your stack was a lot more dangerous than Aetryn's. I needed a few turns to ammas enough troops to threaten your army. I was able to wipe Aetryn's first stack - after you retreated from Neapolis.
3) I needed the "fucking accuracy cats" to bombard Aetryns burned city. And I got barrage1 from AGG.
But your 30+ cataphracts are enough to kill most plans to invade you. My sim said, I would lose most catapults to flanking damage and my units would lose against your cataphracts. But I forgot that Vodka can't simulate the flanking nerf. I tried to bait you into attacking my stack (without catapults), I would be able to wipe after that.
And that was no mistake, I knew about your cataphract because I had vision on my old cities, so I knew they were save.
And when you moved your catapults in range, I would lose, so I retreated.

And like you said, that you removed the cannons from Antium was the reason to attack. I think I still would had attacked if you still had the rifles, but this would mean, I couldn't take the city - I had no unit left after that.

MG are good if you use promoted crossbows and deploy them with a few more boni. A cannon should be able to maul a MG, so 6 cannons against 6 MG ? Maybe a bit unlucky, but nothing really special. I lost 10 praets against the MG in Ardea and only so few because I got lucky. Win at ~ 30%.

And towards the map: I still think, I got the worst position from the layout on the map, but your land ? horrible
