Psilons overrated?

Not all. I feel much more comfortable playing as Alkari
UPD: It feels like Psilon are forced to research shields. Alkari, Mrrshan, Klackon and Meklar does not need shields that much

Are you using a mod setting that affects early AI expansion? I've never seen them settle up in my face like that.

I'm genuinely curious: do you ever play on anything other than Small maps? Tech moves significantly faster on larger map sizes and AI empires will be much larger than the 2-3 planet empires you're guaranteed to be facing with the Small / 5 AIs map setting. This hyper-aggression feels a bit tailored to having tiny maps where the AI can't really expand and the player starts right on top of them.

True. That being said, if aggressive strategies work best on Tiny galaxies, it's worth noting.

I don't think the AI has any advantage on a huge map. I don't think the AI can't expand on a small map. The rules for choosing houses, on the contrary, are too conducive to this. You can often see one race occupying the entire map. You can lose on a big map only in a very bad situation
