Do you have a strong reason to push for an engagement right now? Otherwise you can heal up and reinforce. You should be winning in the long term.

I'm happy to delay, but I also don't want to lose any more cities if it's not necessary. I don't want him to suddenly drive a fork between Rodman and my capital. I just have to be really careful about where to position to prevent that. I would feel a lot better if I knew exactly what he had. It would also be annoying if he escapes back north, and retakes Paris/kills off my other units up there.
Still not seeing any more units from him in the south... did he run them away back to his NE city or something? Or are they hiding in that plains tile? I'd really like to hit that stack while it's only got 5 musketeers.
Two flawless victories in the north. I womped his axeman with my arty, then killed a wounded warrior with my AT. talk about a mismatch! Of course killing a warrior doesn't mean much, but it does give me useful XP.
nevermind, he moved in with just what was visible there. 5 musketeers and 6 catapults. So either I really miscounted the demos, or his other musketeers are somewhere else. 4 in the north now by Tours. Maybe the others are in his NE city?
Now I think my center stack should just go kill/take his NE city. I might have been otherthinking this.
I'm not good at cloak and dagger or tracking demos so I am not much help.
If there is no phantom musketeers then go for it.

I never have a good sense of how many units he has. If this is all he has, then great. I can defend against this with no problem. The north front becomes more of a challenge though... 4 musketeers and 1 axe/1archer vs my 1 arty/1AT on a hill...? may the RNG roll in my favor.
Found his wounded musketeers in the center. it's funny what a trek they've been on, and they still haven't healed at all. These are 2 from the very start of the game. After this screen I moved the center stack north towards his city.
Up north, I attacked with my arty at 100.0% odds, then finished off the wounded axe with my AT. You don't offen get odds that good! Took a little damage, healed with a promotion. Took drill since... i'm still worried about defending. Actually I messed up a bit here, I meant to move up the other AT this turn but I forgot. And here's the situation down south. He advanced everything, but I can't quite hit anything unless I use mobility. But I've got him completely outmached now. I even used my GG to promote the stack of 1 arty 3 AT. If he kills that one AT on open ground, that's fine, he should take at least 1 musketeer down with him, maybe even 2. My main concern now is that he might run away without fighting.
It is looking good. 5 musketeers and some catapults should be doable with your current home forces.
What do you think his northern ministack will do? You have three cities left to take out now right? What order are you thinking of doing it in?

At this point i'm more worried he'll run away before I can chase him down. I'm guess he'll wait as long as he can, then try to kill my small stack in the north. With just 4 his odds are low, but if I get more wounded or he gets 1 more musketeer his odds go up a lot. I'd like to kill the city before he can do that. But maybe i should stop, move back, and reinforce with the AT guarding paris? i'd probably lose paris then, but it's better than losing the stack. I can also whip an archer there next turn. My plan is to use the center stack to go after his NE city, while also moving my galleys up there. I have no idea what's up there... maybe the missing musketeers I was expecting? or maybe nothing. Either way I think I can take it, then use galleys to quickly move over and finish off his last city in the west. Or retake Paris if necessary. |
