Post your abandoned games here

Ever had that game where you felt it was hopeless? Had games drag out in an unsatisfactory fashion? Didn't think it was worth playing the rest of the way for whatever reason? Well, you can share it here! I'll start with a savefile from a "quick" Nature game I did to reacclimatize myself. I didn't wish to play it to the end, merely get familiar with the school and the game again. I think the game itself is fairly interesting however, and would love to see someone else give it a try.

Great idea. I am on a new PC and have a fresh install. It synchronized my COM saves correctly form the Steam cloud, but not my COM for Windows saves. Any ideas why and how to go about this?

best advice I can give you is to do what I did and ban steam, I haven't had steam on my computer for the last about 10 years and will never install it.

OK. Then how do you get your new games along with the streamlined frequent patches? And how do you move your save files from computer to computer? For example 2 other games I play often along with their frequent patches are Age of Empires 2 and Dominus Galaxia. And I played on about 5 computers within 2 years.

1. GOG
2. google drive and disk on key, I backup all my saves and never delete a save, at the moment I have 228 backup folders of all my CoM games from the last two years.

1. Does GOG provide streamlined patches? Or you have to do it manually the old fashioned way?

2. You played 228 different COM II games in 2 years? I played 15 games in 2465 recorded hours by Steam. The recorded hours are nice too in Steam. How did you measure your number of hours played?

GoG provides updates like steam I guess, I get Seravy's latest patches automatically by GoG App, according to GoG I have reached 1777 hours two years ago and they stopped counting because I guess it's GoG limit, I have 8 saves in each folder so it's about 1784 saves, I save every 2-15 turns and I quit many of the games when I see it's a very bad luck or I lose my hero or I see that I lose because I never reload. so currently I start many many games and continue playing when I have a good start (mainly adequate hero before June 1503). I have reached a winning position in Phantas in 1510 and quit playing and reached winning positions in two other Phantas games, but lost my hero and started a new game because I don't reload.

Slitherine Ltd is not updating their version anymore, so neither GOG nor Steam will have any automatic updates for you unless they change their minds. Official updates to the game will most likely only be found here on Realms Beyond forums now and for the future.

This is a cool thread idea, thank you for sharing! Unfortunately ALL my games are abandoned, haha; I see something in game and think "Oh that gives me a new idea for a starting Custom Wizard" and then start a new one (even if I was still having fun with the previous game).

Can someone please explain why Slitherine Ltd is not updating their COM for Windows version anymore? Also, why Slitherine is even in the process of publishing this game? And why not just go without them or with someone else? Also, was Steam, GoG, and Realmsbeyond the only 3 places this game was distributed this year?
Thanks,

There are other places to get other versions of the game, but Steam and GOG are the only distributors of CoM for Windows, the official patch(es) here on Realms Beyond must be downloaded to write over an existing installation from Steam or GOG.

My speculation:

Why Slitherine is publishing the game is, well, they 'acquired' the rights to publish it. I don't know what that process involved, whether the rights were bought from people and who those people might have been, or just Slitherine filed some kind of legal claim for all the trademarks or something like that. They probably wanted the rights more to protect themselves when using the name for the recent remake, than to earn profits from the resale of this nearly 30-year-old game. Profits is also a likely explanation for why they aren't updating their version anymore - it doesn't cost them much but it does require a little bit of work and they just aren't likely to see any significant additional income from their work.

I think Seravy continues to work on this game out of passion for the game itself, not profits, so he will continue to make updates as long as it interests him and release the patches here (just as he did before Slitherine got invlolved).
