I'm hoping to make a backup of it.

The Items.dat file in the main folder should be the correct one. But I've never tried whether it works. Just test it out. Write if it worked. popcorn

Backed up items.dat uninstalled Master of Magic + Caster of Magic and then reinstalled with the latest version before replacing the items.dat file with the backup.

Unfortunately the item editor didn't have any of my custom items in it. The file either wasn't compatible with the newer version or there were additional files that also needed to be archived.

When I have given a Vial to a hero and they die in-combat and I bring them back with Raise Dead (or Resurrection, if that changes the answer to this question), does the Vial's effect irretrievably fall off, like enchantments (buffs) do? --(I actually had the chance to test this in my most recent game, but I couldn't remember which Vials I fed to which Heroes so I had no way of knowing if they lost anything)

What is the purpose of HERO.INI? Are there genders used in the text in game anywhere? And why are they ALL male, haha?

Does a Hero's race have any impact in the game? (I noticed that there was a variable in UNITS.INI, but the only things I can think of that care about units' race is -which cities they are built from and -which sprite they use)

The effect of the vial should be permanent, I think. You can easily check it by using the debug hotkeys.

HERO.INI determines the gender of the summoning image. If you're adding a female hero, use "Female".

If you create race specific unit abilities, the hero will get them that way. You can also use a realm as a race to create heroes like Torin.

Oh, right, the summoning image, thanks!

I thought racial abilities still had to be written out - like, War Mammoths are Troll race (13), but they don't get regeneration because it isn't in their entry in UNITS.
I did forget about the possibility of Fantastic realm heroes, that might be interesting.

The unit abilities are not linked to a race. But you can do such things with CAS files.
E.g.:
- Dwarven heroes that visit a city with Dragon Hoard gain Adamantium equipment.
- Dwarves that spend their 6 month holydays in the montains gain the unit enchantment "Stone Strenght".
- Or while I am alreday on it: High Elf units, that spend a certain time on a Nature node become creatures of Nature.

... Things like that are possible. In More Stuff MOD Mammoths gain Regeneration, if the city has a Witchhouse.

1. Does death immunity protects from Reaper's slash?
2. Does Bless protects (+2.5 defense) from Lightning Bolt, Warp Lightning?
Reply

1. No. Poison Immunity does.
2. Yes, but at halved effect. So, about +2 or +3 defense, depending on if the math rounds up or down.

Does charmed protects from poison damage (except the reaper's slash spell of course) ?

Hi, I banished a Nature wizard but did not find any spells although he knew a number of spells I did not know and I had 4 Nature books, what determines if you find spells? what is the chance to find such spells? Thanks!
