Cold hard cash. We're going to build a 200-hammer (or so) scout, and have the overflow convert into Currency.
Ahh, I see. Is that a change from the base game?

This is part of the overflow limiting mechanic in base BTS: How many hammers can overflow into the next build is limited by the cost of what you are building, and any excess is turned into gold at a 1:1 ratio. It's not the most efficient way to generate gold, but it's one about the only one left in CtH. Another favorite is to disconnect copper (pillage the mine) for a turn, then whip warriors for MP and get some gold as a bonus.
Base BtS has others ways of generating gold, such as building a wonder in multiple cities, and you get fail-gold for each, even if your city completes the wonder. For these you're repaid for the amount of modified hammers put into the wonder, making it a lot more efficient.
Well yes. Sort of. There was a problem with overflow conversion in that the production multiplier were not divided out. They were for the normal production overflow into the next item but not the gold generated from excess overflow. So you could do things like print money by making warriors in your HE city. The apes at Firaxis patched it but broke it completely because this simple bit of math was too much for them.
BUG mod which is part of CTH fixed the bug (ironically) and thus the overflow to gold conversion works properly in CTH. One of the ways in which the 'unaltered gameplay' part is a bit of a lie.
Turn 110 (125 BC)
Superdeath has researched Currency, and tries to negotiate another attack on plemo in 9 turns. Sorry buddy, but the time for our attack was 4 turns ago, and any element of surprise is now gone. We could probably get some Horhcers ready to attack in 20t, just in time to impale themselves on war elephant tusks. Thus a timeline of 25t seems more reasonable for our sake, which we send back. Pindi has also been increasing his power to worrying levels, and is likely to either go for another round with Amica over the jungle, or perhaps challenge Bing or Commodore. Amica is trying to keep track but lags slightly behind, while Commodore seems to be unworried. Will be interesting to see which part is set on fire next.
Turn 112 (75 BC)
This turned out to be a rather big turn. Superdeath has been trying to negotiate what we believe is our attack on plemo's island, but plemo took matters into his own hands and declared on Superdeath this turn. There's still five turns left on our enforced peace, but we'll see if we're in a position to do something about the island then. Plemo has also managed to foil our plans yet again; Oslo build a library which allowed him to steal the western forests we were going to chop. To be honest, I'm probably most annoyed that my beautiful plan was ruined. Chopping the four forests at Rococo should still be enough, and we have another four at Agricola if needed. Our scouting workboat spotted a mysterious mountain island behind Pindi's island last turn, and discovered that Pindi was lucky enough to have passage to what appears to be another continent, where we met GKC. I wonder how many of the player-specific islands have such secrets? It's not like Pindi had one of the cripple-starts; he's got fish and riverside corn and wheat, and some of the greenest lands I've seen for expanding into. In more minor news, Commodore has triggered his first golden age, swapping into Caste, Vassalage, OrgRel and HR.
Turn 115 (1 AD)
Plemo's war on Superdeath was shortlived, they signed peace the very next turn. Plemo has since gone on a serious whipping-spree, so we expect him to attack us while the Superdeath front is treaty-enforced safe. We had a discussion of going for Construction before Currency, but decided against it. Here's a look at Rococo's gold-making machine: There's also some tension brewing elsewhere: If I were in Pindi's shoes, I'd have waited until the tech-discrepancy was larger and Amica had cleared out the jungle, but this should do the trick too. Speaking of tricks, plemo is back to logging in soon after turn roll, and then playing the turn 20 hours later, making him extremely hard to attack. Not that it matters while we have enforced peace, but it is slightly annoying. |
