I will need an extension this turn - not to spend extra time planning but because the latest extension caused Amicalola to not be able to play in his window and I will be asleep in the small amount of time between Amicalola being able to play and the turn rolling. Likely an 8 hour extension to be safe, but I should be able to fit a turn in about this time tomorrow.

Somehow I can't move my units or re-assign fields in a city.... tried to login/logoff again (which works fine)

Now, the game completely freeze on me..

Not sure what's causing it, same setup as usual..

Will try a bit later again, hopefully will get it to work, as tomorrow I might have trouble to login before later in the afternoon..

GT, looking at PBSpy I think Gavagai was also logging in and that delay while he is loading could have been what you were experiencing.

I got stuck at finishing the first time I logged in and I recall there was one occasion when I logged in simultaneously with Bing and the effects were similar. Apparently, when two people try to log in simultaneously, the game behaves weirdly sometimes.

The game freezes to avoid coming out of synd when someone is logging in, and sometimes that can take longer than you think it should.

Honestly I didn't really feel that good about this.
First, with current turn splits going out of sync, a 10 hours extension is effectively a 24hrs one over two days or three, as we could beautifully observe in this case.

And while I have no issue with extensions if real life or turn splits get in the way, I do think that the 24hrs timer that we are supposed to be all playing on also means that time constraints force suboptimal play at times. Now, we have had long extensions in late game, but those were 50 or 100+ cities empires with many hundreds of units, which were exhausting to play, and we are nowhere near that. So I would urge everyone to accept that your turn may not play out perfectly, as it will for everybody.

Now I asked Ginger in our team chat and he's more sympathetic towards the extension, so I may be off general consensus. But maybe we should establish how we want to handle that sort of thing.

I largely agree with what Miguelito wrote. Personally there have been turns I have played suboptimally in order to get them in with the time i have available that day. That's a choice I made in how I spent my time during the day, and I don't think I should hold up the game for everyone else due to that.

Now things absolutely come up that we have no control over and I've no issue with extensions being asked due to RL coming up. I've asked for extensions before and I will again, I just try to minimize it.

I don't have a problem with occasional extensions for thinking and planning provided they do not become systematic. I am as anxious to get to play my next turn as anyone else but I realize that objectively we are not in any hurry to finish the game by some deadline. It is a hobby, not a job, and we are doing it for the process, not for end result. The process must be fun for everyone and I understand how being rushed to play the turn can be unfun. Also, keep in mind that the difference between "I want to plan my turn more carefully" and "real life issues prevent me for playing the turn in time" is not clear cut.
Of course, this all relies on the idea that such extensions are rare but I can't say that we have some sort of proliferation of these sort of issues. Given the number of players the turn pace has been decent so far, I think.

That's a good point, Gav. After I wrote my piece I immediately started poking holes in it myself: For instance what if someone gets a surprise dogpile in game? I've been ok with pauses for issues like that before.
