Whip anger definitely doesn't reset when you capture (else it would be a loophole to intentionally allow reconquering to get rid of whip anger.)
On the thread locking - there's something that's clickable somewhere in the thread list that does it (the hot topic icon or somewhere around there), I've done it accidentally myself but never figured out exactly what it was.

What, me bumping this thread? Shock and awe!
No, I'm mostly going to put this here because I don't know where else to put it, as the public thread seems not quite right. But one thing we've never fully grappled with in these games is that everyone has their own personal standard for what constitutes a mistake they can live with in the interest of the game being better for everyone else. My general orientation is I'll ask for reloads for mechanical mistakes (ie I intended to click A and instead clicked B), not mental mistakes, unless the mental mistakes are so extreme in impact/circumstances that it is literally game altering.
The problem is even this rubric is very wide to interpretation. One of the tricky bits here is the best players are often the best players because they're much more perfectionist than us merely pretty good players. I know this because when I go through stretches where I play super seriously, I've seen that I can be competitive with anyone, and I just lack the drive to do that all the time. The folks that do have that drive will often inconvenience other players constantly in favor of playing more perfectly. IE, refusing to play their turn until they have a large window within which to play, while I prioritize PYFT over everything and very rarely hold the turn.
The issue with all this is it really spills out in reload requests. It's incredibly difficult as-is to play against a perfectionist, because they're nigh on impossible to surprise. So much of beating someone in Civ is about forcing mistakes. And when you finally exert enough pressure on a perfectionist that they make a mistake, it's brutal to then see that mistake wiped away because "oops" when you know full well you made a mistake just yesterday playing the turn. But of course, to the perfectionist this feels devastating, because not making mistakes is sort of their whole thing.
This is sort of the genesis of the idea I just lobbed out about how to mediate reloads going forward. It seems like the way forward may be to give players a mulligan budget and let them decide rather than adjudicating constantly, which is inherently sort of a bad process anyway for a myriad of reasons.

I'll be honest, I was surprised at the suggestion, and the enthusiasm that greeted it. I agree that reloads should be limited, and would have opposed this one, but a 'budget' seems overly crude approach given the genuinely gameshattering misclicks that are possible this late in the game.
Definitely agree though re the attention economy, though. I'm playing five minute turns in a midgame-ish game and I know I can perform better, but have chosen to prioritise other things.

Well, for one, this is part of why I said refinement would be necessary. If we're refining, I think I'd stick genuine misclicks in their own category. I'm nearly always fine with that because I don't really want to win over a mechanical mistake. This isn't what we're talking about here though as far as I can tell. I think the "oops I forgot to" things are the ones that annoy people because not everyone requests them equally often. I don't really see how "oops I forgot to" is significantly different from "I failed to consider I could have whipped the wonder 1T sooner if I had taken more time to notice you were going to finish it first." Obviously the latter is an extreme example that would never be allowed, but I think you can see why they're not significantly different in that they're both mental mistakes, and mental mistakes are inherently part of this game.
The fairly crude approach I think works as a check on stuff like that. I think it would prevent the "micro nerd forgot to perfectly follow micro plan and now wants to stop the game" scenario that drives people a little nutty because they would be forced to reckon with the reality that it isn't actually that big of a mistake relative to other things they can imagine. For example, "forgot to unload my army from the boat until 1 second after I ended turn (sequential) and now a city is lost" which would be a good time to use your mulligan. Mostly I think it levels the field as right now the players granted the most reloads are simply the ones who ask for them the most frequently. Asking for reloads frequently is a competitive advantage at this point.

What's this, a rare actual update? Well, it's because this game gave me a good laugh today. What's been going on is I've been huddled on a 3 tile island for a month or so - logging in twice weekly for 30 seconds to press enter - waiting for GT to come finish me off. And he sent units over to do exactly that. The problem is that he had to stop ferrying units over because Gavagi has been absolutely speed-running him. GT has neither committed towards finishing nor sent any units home to defend himself, resulting in this weird standoff where I keep adding Archers because I lack the resources to build much else, and he occasionally adds a Catapult by sea. Then I logged in today and got the funniest possible event.
What can I say, I do have Archers.
The possibility that I outlast GT in this game due to my Archers getting free promotions would be amazing. It looks like he's settled an island of his own elsewhere, so it seems unlikely I'll actually outlast him, but I appreciate the game doing me a solid here. At least until the RNG spits out free Cover for his Axes or something.

Free cover for axemen is not possible.
Free cover for all meleeunits is the event.
8 archers on a hill ? I'm not sure if you have to play. Set archer to autobuild and ask ramk, if it's possible to end your turn automaticly ? I'm reasonable sure, we had something in one of our games.

I thought about asking to get added as an admin for this game for the express purpose of being able to end my turn from the web portal. The only time I need to login is whenever I hit size 2 to whip.

Who needs transport ships when you can just sign a peace treaty with a conveniently located third party? We could've skipped Iphigenia in Aulis!
