I'm not sure. How were the unit compositions ? I think, I had offered the battle. HA against praets and onyl 3 catas on his side ?

I apparently forgot to take a screenshot, but part of the total units were 10axes. Plus a good chunk of WC's. It was going to be a slaughter on both sides, but i dont believe i can take that loss just yet. He has the attack on his side, i have defense on mine. He is just now showing up with catapults which is the only way he can break any of my cities without HUGE losses. I was getting 40-60% vs his fortified c1/shock axes with my praets. Before bombarding. C1Shock elephant was getting at worst, 66%ish vs his top defender, which was going to be an archer. SEEING that, and providing he doesnt wisen up and add a spear or two, ill add in more chariots. Just biding my time until my HA stack forces him to whip elsewhere and raze some more important cities. Its a hell of a long wait, but i think its more productive to send them around to the cities he isnt whipping to the ground, rather than fight and lose them on the main front for a slow grind. I outproduce him naturally, and have far more whipping potential. FAR more happy than he does, ect.

Also fun fact. While i was checking around to see who i could bum my extra resources to for extra GPT.. i found that Mjmd was receiving gpt from Gavagai. I assume as a loan. Great. So, not only did Gavagai never continue a war vs mjmd, the lowest power in the game with practically every wonder, (they had a past brief war) and Mjmd who is content to not get anymore land from Gavagai... BUT both of them are working together. Mjmd doesnt want to win the game it seems, and neither of his neighbors apparently want some of the easiest land they have ever seen. I get pretty frustrated seeing that. AND THEN THERE IS GAVAGAI. I do the (lol) "heavy lifting" of starting to eliminate Ricky. Thus, i should be able to set the border right? So, he stuffs a city below and above my plant. THEN goes to war over the area. I was fine to leave him alone while i do my own thing, and explore/settle the desert because that looks fun. He could have ran over Mjmd with half the army he has already lost running face first into spears and praets.

I really want to win this game. Ive been going over the micro every turn, trying to get the most bang for my buck in each city. This turns oops more or less losing 5 catapults is such a kick in the pants. Its not going to decide the wars outcome, i dont think thats in question, but its likely to extend it by a decade. While also putting me into a temporarily more vulnerable position where he could stack up and force me to defend a city while he bombards with his own catapults, until i get more to the front. He has only been whipping 3 cities that i can see, while the rest naturally produce units. Ill have to remind myself to check and see his production and what cities are likely the best targets to disrupt his production. According to his research, and where he is teching wise vs my tech rate, i THINK he is going for Longbows next. I have to eliminate him before those come onto the field. They are the only unit he can produce (save crossbows) that i cant just brute force with praets at a 1-1 ratio at worst.

Im very curious what you all think about my daring desert HA attack. (im going thru with it no matter what, so your input is just for future superdeath) Would you be doing the same? Would you be bringing it south to help the front?

It's always good to see some maneuver warfare in Civ4, so looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I did something similar with cuir's in PB58.

offhand i can only recall 3 other times i did anything similar to this. One time when i hit... Nauf? with HA's thru his neighbor and razed... 2? cities. (pb44?45? whatever one i was playing i think Khmer and did donald trump jokes)

One where i basically sent a shitload of WC's via boat to go and raze... Mjmds(?) capital.

And my favorite, sending Commando Cavalry/knights ect to raze a bunch of cities in pb48

I think it's a very entertaining choice, so I endorse it on those grounds.

Sigh. Gavagai smacked my northern stack with a catapult and then got a bunch of rather lucky rolls. With his medic 3 chariot, im crunched for time to try and prevent his stack from full healing with extra fun little promotions.

Also Nauf has knights, so thats a thing to worry about as well.

Why couldnt i have been closer to Greenline/mjmd? Ricky was a nice feast, but not worth neighboring someone even more psychotic than myself.

So, GT (who is down to 1 city) Has taken his army on a quest to i guess hit Gavagai? WELL, that would have been AMAZING (earlier) but even now would have been amazing had he gone south into Gavagai's core, rather than into his new size 1-2 desert cities. Maybe GT is trying to live another turn or something? BUT im fairly sure the city he is about to take will auto raze, and depending on the situation back home.. thats gonna lead to a poof'd army. WELL, if that doesnt happen.. ive moved my HA stack south to be in a better position to hopefully gain WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE! >smile If gavagai sends more units to defend. NOW, not only would GT have gotten more capture gold/guarenteed gotten a keepable city by going south, Gavagai would have been FORCED to either whip to the bone to save a city in his core, because they are all warriors/archers, or move his entire stack towards the threat. (which if i was Gavagai id protect my core cities that have never been whipped over the frontline that would most likely be crushed eventually given the status que)

SO, things are kinda happening? I birthed a GE, wish i could use it on a wonder that isnt the +2 happy Notre Dame.. But i need it for a GA. I got engineering, and i put almost 80% research overflow for engineering into my next few techs on the way to theocracy/fued/guilds line. Ending with Literature for the HE in my 2gg city. Im hoping i can get my ass into gear before Nauf decides that Zulu being a war-ally is a better friend than our lifelong peace.

Really depends on if he saw the deals i sent GT, which were sent when zulu joined to hopefully slow HIM down, but thats besides the point. No amount of gifted gems, and not destroying his hopes and dreams with agg praets when i could have will stop him from coming at me i think. The only saving grace i have i think, is i have engineering and the ability to build pikes and castles with AGG. Plus i wont be too far behind having my own knights, and although Nauf now has MORE CITIES THAN ME (thx gav tongue) I should be able to deter him from attacking me unless im still at war with Gavagai, or if Gavagai joins in. Im still #1 in power, but most of it is defending my exposed southern Ricky flank. My HA stack (17 or 19 HA) is my only real defense against mounted/unseen forces. I have alot of scout units that can watch Nauf's army move, and if i see it coming my way, or if he breaks open borders, i probably just let Gavagai have my south and concentrate on keeping Nauf from having anything if i can help it.

If nothing happens, Nauf can probably out-tech zulu and conquer them in 30-50t, i can conquer Gavagai in that time, and ginger conquers.. Greenline? Whomever purple/green colored civ that i forget is on the east side of the map. Probably with tanks because no one wants to stop the Currency/Hanging gardens civ. I feel Zulu should have instead of feasting on GT so early. Take down Ginger, who didnt/doesnt have much of an army at that point, while GT and Nauf wear each other down and then you can get an even easier meal. Seemed fool-proof to me?

Somehow Mjmd is still running basically 10 units total in his empire with his neighbors letting him play sim city. Why? Probably just to piss me off even more about the situation im in. OH and on top of it, ive been having more tooth pain that i can BARELY keep in check with double dosing of Aleve and tylonal. . . So, hows your day going?
