Tried it but didn't work. As soon as I click anywhere else the scout gets autoselected. Guess I'll need a mouse then.
Btw, managed to get a 36x36 sim by editing one of the standard map scripts.

There's a checkbox option to turn off automatic unit cycling in the options menu (ctrl-o). If you do this, it shouldn't auto-select a unit when you log in, and if you do have a unit selected, you can tell it to Wait (W key) to deselect it without selecting another unit. There's also an option in there for a right-click context menu which overrides the automatic goto option (but also includes that on the menu, sometimes as the only option) - I use the latter, but you can use both. [EDIT: However, BEWARE PAUSES. For some reason, when the game is paused, it tends to ignore at least the right-click menu option, and possibly others too!]
Quote:Can anyone tell me how to create a dummy map script for a 36x36 map? All snow tiles for example.
If you use the save option in worldbuilder, it will create a [the name you choose].CivBeyondSwordWBSave file in the Worldbuilder subdirectory of your Saves directory. This file is a plain text file you can modify with a text editor. The key elements for this purpose start with "BeginMap" and are very human-readable (One sort-of exception: PlotType=2 is flatland; 1 is a hill, 3 is water, 0 is a peak) and you can probably figure out how to make them into what you want for yourself from there, using regular expressions in a text editor that supports them or with your favorite simple scripting language. In case it's not obvious, I can go into more detail - or I can probably post a python script to import say the 5x5 starting area of an existing sandbox WBSave into an all-snow map of the right dimensions moderately soonish - maybe even today if time and ability allow. (I'd post it to the Civ General subforum of course so anyone in any game can use it.) [EDIT: Sounds like you got this sorted anyway though; nice!]

Automated unit cycling was already off. However I did find a way - double click the scout and it gets deselected
Now the more interesting question of how to deal with the situation. Option 1, swallow the delay and still go east. Option 2, head south long distance on that road and see what the map is about. Option 3, circle clockwise but there is a mountain barrier just south of the rubble - two peaks we see and there is a third one next to them. So it's a bad direction to circle - or to settle, unless the rubble hints that there might be valuable resources across the mountain that the city will get in its second ring.
Question about the road on the grass hill - it is definitely connected to another road SE from it, right? When I place roads in world builder the graphic changes depending on the surrounding tiles, and this one only happens when the road connects to another road.

I don't recommend playing with a trackpad as turns get more complicated. It's too easy to do stuff like this. However, I have played big turns on trackpads before, so here's a bunch of random suggestions of varying usefulness. When I play the odd turn on a laptop, I do basically all of the following.
* Disable tap-clicks on your trackpad. This depends a lot on laptop model, but in general fiddle with settings to make misclicks as hard as possible. You want to have to physically press down to click.
* Scroll the map with the arrow keys. And in general use your keyboard as much as possible to do things. Just do all you can to keep your hands off the trackpad until it's time to make a move.
* Learn keyboard shortcuts as best as you can. F keys for advisors, hover buttons to see their shortcuts, use "G" to enter go-to mode for selected unit, etc. I constantly recommend go-to mode, and it's especially good on trackpad. It's an extra step of deliberate-ness that I think is helpful for situations like this.
* Limit login times when on trackpad as best as you can. If PBSpy is correct you've, uh, been logged in for 5 hours. I do not recommend this . Login, take screenshots, log out, and look at the pictures to puzzle out your plans if necessary. The longer you're logged in and scrolling around, the more casual you'll be and more likely to misclick something.

I just left it in the background
Thanks for the tips. Disabling tap-clicks will certainly help and I'm getting to know the shortcuts too.

The easiest way to get a map of a certain dimension is to use Seven's torusland script which allows you to set dimensions directly.

Interesting tech choices by the others. Dreylin has taken fishing... I was thinking of our fishing more as a dud tech that gives 10 coins pre border expansions, discounts pottery for another 13, and finally gives a few more coins here and there before we build cottages. So not the worst of them but definitely inferior to mining or the wheel which are needed for the crucial BW+pottery. I suppose Dreylin just likes them fishes
On the other hand, with two seas nearby we might actually find some...
From the others it seems that Gav went for agri, and one of Magic and SD has taken mysticism while the other mining or hunting. Maybe I'm missing something but is there a benefit in racing for a religion in a 5 player game? I can understand Dreylin wants one with SPI, but if Magic is doing it would that be to IND rush the oracle for metal casting? And if no one else would be expected to rush, why wouldn't Dreylin just go slower? I understand genlurkers can't comment on the actual game but is there anything you can say in general?
How does the demographics screen determine rank when there is a tie? For example everyone is at 8000 land area, but we are listed as 4th. Is this random and unknown or can I get the default ordering from somewhere?
Btw I accidentally right-clicked in worldbuilder while building the sim and saw a menu that said "add script to plot". Does this mean that scooter could have done something like spawn barbs when you move onto a certain tile?

Tie-breaker for demographics is the player id.

The player ids are:
0 Magic Science
1 Thrawn
2 Gavagai
3 Superdeath
4 Dreylin
Since I'm listed 4th, does this mean that they are used in reverse order so ties end up as Dreylin > SD > Gav > Thrawn > Magic?
