[PB78] Underdogs and undercats: The Mrrshan warlords visit the world of Civ IV

Something happened to my research and last turn went into archery instead of BW frown. This disrupts my building plans a lot and is a significant setback. Is there a way to fix it? No idea how it happened, I definitely did not select archery.

Probably happened because you didn't select a tech / unselected accidentally. I fear it can only be fixed with a reload currently, so if you feel it's warranted you should bring it up in the tech thread quickly so theother players don't play in vain

Yes it seems it got unselected because the top bar showed the selection options instead of BW which is how I noticed it.

A little update in the meantime. Covered a lot of ground in the last 3 turns - the scout was next to SD's border and is now halfway across the world.

Met Dreylin and Magic this turn - both have a scout on the tile SE-E from the gem. A capital must be really close and I'd love to know who it is (could be even Gav) but it's time to head back and explore the homeland before the settler is out.

Dreylin has also met SD, Magic has not. And I finally realised what's going on with Magic's tech. I had counted my own soldiers as rival when I was guessing who took what as third tech and concluded that he couldn't have taken mining but of course he did.

Since lurkers like scouting arrows -

This is a summary of everything revealed so far along with a 8-tile yellow ring around the capital and the current scouting plan. Scout #1 that's now in the SE will come home using the roads that are most likely there, and then will explore along the coast to fill in that gap and will continue east. Scout #2 which just went NE-NE-N from the capital will circle counterclockwise to check the north and the west as indicated and I expect a sea to the NW as a natural barrier. And scout #3 which will be out on T22 will cover the eastern part of the homeland and then turn north to explore the capital that scout #1 was just about to reach, but scout #3 will get to it from the other side which nicely avoids going through explored territory.

I expect to have the full 17x17 area around the capital revealed by the time the settler is out on T30, and the entire map not long after that. The scouts can then go on sentry duty to look out for enemy activity or can fogbust for barbs, and certainly won't be wasted. At 15h I think they are excellent value.

Quick question - when do you stop putting EP into someone if you want to get just demos? I remember reading something that old players do it differently than new players. Right now I'm at 40/40 with SD and want to start putting into someone else.

42/42 is the point, where both should have insight.
But if 40/40 is enough ?

Thanks xist. That's what I calculated it as well but some people put 43 I think.

I always thought it was 43/43 as well.

The formula is that you need 30% of (100 + the other player's total against you). For that to be true in both directions between two players, that happens at x >= 42.8. If the threshold gets truncated to integer before comparing (I don't know offhand), then it would be at 42, or if not then effectively 43.
