[SPOILERS] scooter Expands the Empire Across the Sea

Pale is the most likely city for Hindu to pop, but the dice aren't always in our favor. Worst spot would actually be the desert city, to the point where it's almost better to delay it for a turn. (Almost, but not quite). It is indeed a very powerful city, but it's slightly food overloaded which given our happy situations means workers/settlers mainly. It could very much use a lighthouse after that worker though.
Playing: PB74
Played: PB58 - PB59 - PB62 - PB66 - PB67
Dedlurked: PB56 (Amicalola) - PB72 (Greenline)
Maps: PB60 - PB61 - PB63 - PB68 - PB70 - PB73 - PB76

Yeah agreed the desert RNG would suck, but the odds of it are low enough that I'm not going to sweat it. In general I sort of view the desert city as a city that will grow on cow + coast and then whip every 10T. All it really needs is a Granary/Lighthouse, and the occasional Corn share will make it easier to get the food necessary to whip these two buildings in. It might make sense to specifically make it a naval pump to skip the Barracks too.

As for Pale, yeah I'm definitely thinking Lighthouse as the production here is so high that it's quick to build too. Definitely crossing fingers on Hinduism and/or a discovered happy on the east island. I haven't done a single whip yet because the happy is precious, but I would like to start getting value out of Expansive. The worker coming out will likely chop the riverside grassland tile that is shareable with Unta, and by the time all that happens there should be Pottery in to cottage it.

Any idea what the 16-point score increase on the overall turn roll was? The only thing I can see that affected score is Pale growing from 3->4; I hadn’t thought that would be worth so much, and we did gain 6 at the end of our T52 which seems more in line with gaining 1 pop point.

Probably land points? They are awarded 20 turns after gaining the tile, which I think fits with settlements. (I have not been paying too much attention to timings)

Yes I believe this is Pale land points + 1 pop growth.

Looks like Cairo and Yuri settled city 3 on T52 and T53 respectively. Also I think I found Bing’s city 3 settle on T46, one turn before our city 3 settle. However we will beat him to 4.

We are at 4 cities now, surely the first to do so. (Edit: Zed-F is on top of this!) Went with Ehrlitan largely due to the desert/arid-y climate of the region, plus it felt right to have a path from Ehrlitan to Aren. Hinduism also did not fall, so we have just one more turn to wait to see if we land it. Ehrlitan is going to borrow the Corn for 2 turns. Simply working the Cow is probably more efficient overall, but sticking Unta in a hammer config for a couple turns gives me a slightly faster jump on scouting out the east island, so I think the tradeoff is worth it.

The empire as it stands. Next priority will be laying down a couple cottages around the capital starting with the two grassland tiles it can share with Pale.

A fog-gazing peek to the east island. It looks like there's a greener window in the same latitude as Aren which is promising as much of my island is arid. More importantly it's quite long, albeit snaky.

23 foodhammers above the average is a pretty enormous gap this early on. I'm fairly surprised at this. I wonder if others have pushed the Galley/islands sooner, which would be a slower start but potentially be worth it.

I wonder why Yuris' 3rd city was so late then. Cairo's seems pretty normal considering a Stonehenge detour, but T53 with no detours if his land is similar to mine is pretty late. Which makes me think maybe there was a detour. I wonder if he had a failed Stonehenge attempt? He is De Gaulle, so I could see him targeting it I guess.

I actually quite like the plains west of the corn for an early cottage to be shared with Ehrlitan/Wine-city. Similarly, a mine on the hill east of it for flexible hammers has some value down the line.

One thing I just noticed; the water 2N of the island-cow is a coast (and not a lake as I had assumed), so that tile will be a valuable canal.

Yeah, I've sort of had a city on the desert hill 1N of the Cows in my head for awhile now despite not knowing what's in the fog. A 3 way canal on a hill that redeems a desert tile and has first-ring food checks a lot of boxes. Obviously we'll see what's actually in the fog, but it looks valuable to me. In general I like the geography of this east island as it protects our core cities from the east really well.
