your pixel craft is extrordinary.

In a box 30x30 you fit so much details that are presented so clear and readable! it much better than vanilla graphics.

Also very creative. the beatle is moving backward!

but i absolutly lose it when i find out you didnt just mirror directions!!! you put different lights on each direction!!!


i take liberty to make gifs so more people can enjoy your arts.

I really wish knew how to make MoM run natively at 640x480 instead of 320x240 since that'd allow me a 60x60 box where I'd really show off what I can do lol. The units having just that extra detail possible from a resolution change like that would be astronomical.

If it is better than the vanilla graphics I thank you for that as well. The pixel art was done by Jeff Dee I believe, although I wouldn't be surprised if the others threw in on that as well. They had to do serious crunch through the entire day all week for like a straight year, while all working out of a garage in texas heat if I recall correctly. So given more time I think that they could've made the pixel art a bit prettier, which I don't think it needed. The rest of the art is great. I've also been screwing around with pixel art most of life. When they grew up, home computers were probably too expensive to have ever had one.

Well, I could've had the beetle pushing the boulder forward, but Slingers preferred it going backwards and I made the sprite for him. But thank you again lol.

The original sprites are all light by direction as well, so I want to make sure to try and keep the art to the same calibre if I can. Hopefully I haven't accidentally forgot too on any of them : P

And thank you very much for making gifs of them. I'll drop some bonus sprite art from Adders & Pythons here for the heck of it lol. See how many characters you recognise : P Are you working on any mods by the way?

IMO MoM combat graphic is great, if not lack of animation for ranged attacks. The strategic square map with fist size pixels and even smaller unit icons feel senile, although.

Change of box size would mean you need to redraw every unit, or they would not match. And you are a perfectionist, not a craftsman - you will never make it done.

in the pre-internet era its a wonder that games like master of magic were even created. No playtest. 1 year of development. no patches. How they even assemble the team? By meeting on some convention? Magazine advertisements?

backward pushing beatle is much better - then Slinger feedback was on point. This makes this unit interesting, and this detail make base in real world, which make it believable.

Not to knock Seravy, he's awesome and I respect the heck outta him, but I really don't like his tile set. To be honest the ps1 port of master of magic "Civvizard: Majestu no Keifu" or whatever has a good looking world map. Slightly at an angle that makes it feel more like it's either a board game map, or the result gazing through a crystal ball or something. If Seravy had unlimited time and patience, that'd be an awesome mode to turn on.

Well, the story with Simtex (the dudes that made MoO and MoO) is probably the same as most development teams back in the day. One extremely talented and passionate dude (in this case Steve Barcia, the head of Simtex) decides that he wants to make a computer game. Gets whatever friends/family involved that possess skills involved that he can (pretty sure his wife is the one that did all of the 3d modelling in MoO and MoM) and everyone else would either be recruited from local colleges/universities or through phone calling video game publishers that you are attempting to sell your game to/through (like microprose) and asking for the contact information of freelancers (like the 'Fat Man' group that composed the music for MoO1 and MoM.)

Looking at your gifs I probably just mirrored the Sea Serpent sprite, it doesn't look like I changed the lighting for the directions? I don't have the time to playtest anything that I make, so first time I see it is on Hadriex streams lol.

Your units are amazing looking at them! I don't know how many of those 3d models you made or how many of them are from elsewhere that you are using, but either way the animations and sizing make them fit in perfect for AoW1. I tried my hand at 3d modelling and animation like a decade ago, and I've got less then no aptitude for it.

That's a shame that the AoW1 scene is less active. I find that kind of surprising since people always seem surprised when I tell that I couldn't get into AoW and it seems like a universally liked game from my perspective. Well, if you wanna' try your hand at MoM modding I'm certain that Suppanut and Slingers would be happy to have another dude around.

Honestly if someone made a "Master of Magic for Windows" style remake of Master of Orion 1 I'd be modding the crap outta that lol. I use to follow the development of "Master of Orion Java" or whatever it was called (Now it's called "Remnants of the Precursors) but I really really disliked the art and small proposed gameplay changes. The artist was exceptionally skilled, but the aesthetic style rubs me in the wrongest way. Literally all the same complaints and reasons I don't like the MoM Remake come to think of it lol.

Heck, even better, if I had all the free time in the world I've got ideas for proposed rulesets for fan sequels of MoM and MoO1 written down. I'd do 'em in double the normal DOS resolution of 320x240 at 640x480 with 16 bit colour-depth instead of 8 bit! I'd make look great (by 1990's standards : P ) and try and expand on made the games some of (if not) the best in the genre!

I would like to request your help on goblin units as I plan to adopt goblins from More Stuff mod into Warlord mod. But I have completely different vision from Slingers as I want it to be more like Green Skins and Orks from Warhammer/40k with something like

Take directly from More Stuff (but if you want to make new one, I will always accept it)
- Goblin Spearmen (Using Goblin Spearmen (295))
- Goblin Swordsmen (Using Goblin Swordsmen (296))
- Goblin Bowmen (Using Goblin Poison Archers (297))
- Goblin Hobgoblin (Using Goblin Hobgoblin (301))
- Goblin Warboss (Using Goblin Ogre (302))

Take from More Stuff for now, but I would prefer completely new sprite.
- Goblin Spider Riders (goblin ride on not-so-giant spider) (Using Goblin Spider Riders (303) for now)
- Goblin Sappers (merging, wall-crushing, quickcast trap-layer) (Using Goblin Engineers (300) for now)
- Goblin Rabblerousers (caster unit with ability to turn other unit into suicide bomber, replacing priest line) (using Goblin Shaman (298) for now)
- Goblin Hexer (caster unit with ability to cast liability several times, replace magister line) (using Goblin Magicians (299) for now)

Need new sprites
- Goblin Arsonist (goblin with flamethrower)
- Goblin Nightgoblins (stealth invisible range unit)
- Goblin Kiters/Gliders (flying multifigure goblin unit)
- Goblin Doomdiver Catapult (shooting living goblins as ammunition, very high to-hit due to missile is "homing") (need both unit and projectile animation sprites)

Anything that already exist or have equivalent in More Stuff I will use thing from More Stuff. The rest I would like to ask you to make it for me. Would you like to help?

I can see what I can do. I'm going to busy this week and probably can't help yet. I'll check back in a week to see what my schedule is like. When I have less stuff to do I'll start work on something, just let me know which one you'd like most to be worked on. I could also try and do a different goblin base to work off of if you wanted yours to look different from Slingers.

While we're on the subject of wishing: Maybe someone would like to make prototype sprites for the race of Titans? 

There are quite a few giants in MOM that you could take your cues from. The one figure unit should still be without equipment so that the various unit types can be derived from it.

Edit: I'm also attaching my prototype. He'll be a year old soon and the faction hasn't progressed yet. Some Titans are meant to throw trees when they're done...   popcorn

Goblin south diagonal direction doesn't looks committed to face this directions. (same for swordsman... not sure if thats MoM general "feature"? like lack of range attack animation).
