[PB78] Underdogs and undercats: The Mrrshan warlords visit the world of Civ IV

Thanks. At least this micro isn't messed up too bad. I was concerned that scooter had given the barb cities some culture boost that would prevent them from flipping normally.

So will the capital definitely be safe then? If I lose it... bang

No, the capital is not safe.
You can lose the 1% fight.

But yes, there will be a unit in the capital.

It's just warrior next turn, archer fight in 2 turns but you are right that for it it's best to have both units in. The ivory camp is gone btw.

The barbs moved towards the pig instead of attacking so I attacked out with one of the dogs and lost a 86.6%. There actually was a better move but I didn't think it through properly again so it's my fault. It will be very hard to recover from here.

damn.... what a silly game frown the variance in civ4 early combat especially is so much more significant than in VI - i don't know if i'll ever have it in me to play a barbs-on game...

well, we are playing a variant from here for sure, but i guess that's the RB way lol. at least nobody is around to immediately take advantage of our fragility here. fwiw (PB75 spoilers)

mjmd lost a city to gav extremely early, and had 6 cities when the rest of us had 9, and is now the arguable favorite - inconclusive war is just so mutually destructive in this game that if we are left alone for long enough, i think we still have a chance, even if the early barb situation is pretty much as grim as it can get short of losing cities

alright

I have definitely seen worse setbacks salvaged before. All you can really do is keep your head down and hope the game repays you at some point.

The setback isn't a problem. I like digging myself out of holes and lose interest when I have a winning but protracted position.

The problem is that I've been feeling bad about playing because of taking time from other RL priorities. This is what led to the mistakes too - not that they were big by any means but usually I pay that extra level of attention and find the best solution, not the second best. However I don't back out of commitments either especially after a setback and will keep going unless/until there is someone who's happy to take over, which was the plan from the beginning - I said during sign up that I'd like to step down when the game gets more involved.

However the problem may resolve itself soon enough because -

That are some unlucky rolls.
A lost dog is general civ risk, but a lost capital ?

How to you want to proceed von here ?
Option A) ask for a reload. I‘m not sure if this gets an approval or even if this changes something, but…
B) try to built a dog quickly in the second city and try to recapture Fierias
(and C) throw the towel)

No reloads smile I was going to say earlier that in the end I was quite happy actually that we didn't reload for the research.

No throwing in the towel either.

Will see what to do from here - need to examine the options more closely.
