Well, we found Stone.
In the middle of the desert on another island. This whole area is VERY dry, and the total lack of food is a bit bleak. Settler drops next turn and settles the turn after and will be quickly followed by a Warrior/Worker pair. Unta did a 1T worker and will go straight onto a Granary, which chop-aided can be built in 2T. The completion timing is a bit awkward with growth though, so I may finagle it to finish 1T faster by working the Mine and skipping a Crab for a turn.
Someone landed Buddhism. I think this was Yuris judging by his large end of turn score increase.

Well at least we don't need to settle stone *soon* for any stone wonders. Maybe the area north of stone is greener and/or has more food & we can bypass most of the desert.
Bing did settle city 4 last turn, leaving just Cairo and Yuris still on 3.

If the former then you're talking about the same city twice, which is a bit confusing.

I think what happened here was I miswrote worker (bolded above) when I meant warrior. The second half was talking about trying to 1T the Granary, which I ultimately did.
If I kept on food tiles and 2T'd the Granary, it would complete right as I grew to size 4 resulting in no food stored in the Granary. I tweaked it to 1T it and spend 1T off the Crab in order to finish the Granary at 18/26 which will store 8F into size 4. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what will happen. If not, someone will drop by shortly to tell me I did it wrong and maybe this will be the time I fully figure out Granary completion micro.
(Pro tip: this is the best way to learn game mechanics)

Your granary mechanics are correct, but you can do even a bit better. Next turn, don't work the 8 food to grow, work only 7 food. Then the turn after, work at least 6 food and grow. That will make the granary carry over the full 13 (half of 26.) You delay growth one turn but carry over an extra 5 food which is probably better than the net yield of the one laborer-turn.

Oh right, I was going to ask this actually. I was trying to remember if food exceeding the foodbox stored as well, so it sounds like yes. I thought so - my understanding is this is why sometimes it's advantageous to use Avoid Growth.

Yeah, civac usually smacks me upside the head whenever I try to do granary micro, but what T-hawk describes is correct.

Ah right, I forgot about that option, so yes you can work 8 this turn with Avoid Growth, and then yes food exceeding the food box on the turn of growth does count towards the granary's storage. (Just don't forget to unset Avoid Growth the next turn!)

Finding food is good! I guess we need to find out if we get it from the hill N of stone, from the plains N of horse, or from the island in the fog NE or fish. I guess time will tell - we need to know what else is near dye and stone to dotmap effectively.

N of horse is a hilariously high-resource city but it's a minigame to actually hook them into the trade network.

Yeah my original thought is N of stone and ‘near dyes’ is more practical but it really depends on what the fog conceals.
