New / Returning Players PB Game

This is not ideal.
Our planned PAE Game has a high possibility to need a few reloads.

And why did I thought, we play on Emperor ? We have Monarch in the settings, so I see no problem.

I tend to do the newer player games on monarch. Were there any other issues noticed with settings?

And yes hopefully pbspy gets fixed.

I keep getting an error message. I created the BTS Wrapper shortcut with target:
Code:
"D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\BTS_Wrapper.exe" mod= "CloseToHome_5.0.0"
And I tried:
Code:
"D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\BTS_Wrapper.exe" Civ4BeyondSword2015.exe mod= "CloseToHome_5.0.0"

I can tell that the mod is loading without needing to click "Load Mod" in the game, but when I connect to pb.zulan.net:3079, it keeps saying "This server uses an other mod" "Game will crash on login." and "Warning: The version of our game files to not match our host's."

I downloaded CtH 5.0 to both the /Mods folder and /MODS folder and I can even see Lieu-Ye's pic load along with the "Unload Mod" at title screen, so I know CtH is loading.
I also tried copying the mod (to both folders) and renaming it to "RB79" because that's what the page on the previous green game said to do.

Do I need to download anything other than CtH 5.0, the BTS_Wrapper_v9_with_gamespy_fix.zip file (extracted), and Civ4BeyondSword2015.exe?

I'm getting the same error message, but game loads fine.

I'm loading the mod manually at startup from the 2015 exe. How do I get the mod to load automatically with game launch? I haven't installed the wrapper, I wasn't aware of that bit from the one previous game I've played. Should I? Is that what makes the mod load automatically?

Typically there is a different version of the mod posted on the PBYspy page for each game that when used causes the error not to appear. The error itself doesn't mean anything if you click past it and can still join the game. I remember having it pop up for me in pb 74 a lot.

I think the Wrapper (with shortcut where target includes mod) is what loads it automatically. You need to download the Wrapper (found at bottom of Game Description in Zulan's Test PB) and extract it to the game install directory, then create a shortcut to the Wrapper, go to the shortcut's Properties, and edit its "target" to "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\BTS_Wrapper.exe" mod= "CloseToHome_5.0.0" or whichever path you have to the Wrapper.

Someone mentioned that when the game file gets big, load times will take several minutes if you don't use the Wrapper.

I tried logging in through the error message, but the game crashed.

Yes, you should load the mod automatically.
Otherwise, the game restarts with the original .exe and wrapper is useless.

Error messages are not you should ignore- if you don't know why.
I for example get a warning evry login, because I installed the PlatyBuilder for BtS and this changed a few .py files which ares still active.
But this is only a problem for the WB so I ignore it - I still plan to reinstall BtS sometimes to remove this.

@ Miro:
You have CtH 5.0.0, right ? - And you have BtS 3.19, or ?
Can you install Civ4 outside of Steam ?
Otherwise, I know that this is possible, but I never did troubleshooting for the staem version.

Same here, error messages about the mod version, but it loads fine. And everything (techs, settings, map, etc) seem all right.

Rick, you can put the mod name in one line in the CivilizationIV.ini file. So it will load when lanching the BTS. But it will load always.
With the Wrapper you can create diferent DirectAccess for diferent mods or games.

The DirectAccess is already possible in the old exe. - And the methode I would prefere, because you can have more than on link to a mod.

I'm pretty sure this is an artefact of a Steam installation of the game; I've had it every turn with the PB74 version of the mod, except when I was travelling and used an old laptop which had been installed from a disc.
