Turn 49

Cleared the horcher, finally, and landed the Bronze Working Eureka. The quad came in to pillage my fishing boats AND took potshots at one of my warriors, so I had to retreat one into the city to heal. I've got 3 at home now, and am working on more:

I'm going to get out one more and finish the holy site, then spit out two more builders, then two settlers, then horsemen. That's the plan. Need my galley to heal so it can cover the warrior from quads as it clears the camp. The other warriors will try to cut off and pick off that Roman scout in the north, and keep him away from my pasture. I keep retreating with the other warrior, where a SECOND Roman scout (and a warrior) are pursuing. Rome has the luxury of producing two scouts and 4 settlers in the early game, plus at least two builders so far. Must be nice.

(Capital spices! Also no need to invest in an early district).

Is anyone out there pumping out great prophet points yet? Would be nice for SOMEthing to break in our favor this game nod

oh, yes, Archduke finished his holy sites ages ago. He'll be comfortably to the first religion. He's also got a lovely food-rich start. smile Only me and Krill seem to struggle to grow.

Turn 51

Situation seems to be stabilizing:

Still only have one galley to oppose the barbarian quadreme, but I will shortly have 5 warriors on the map and that should secure my area. Looks like Whosit has 3 warriors, a slinger, and 2 scouts, estimating from his military power of ~90. He also has 4 cities to our 2 and multiple more builders, BUT HEY, I have one and a half holy sites!

We'll see if we can overcome a snowball deficit this large. Finally twigged that I was being a moron and switched research from Currency to Celestial Nav, because duh.

Whosit settled the city I managed to delay for 10 turns or so:

Immediately dropped a lovely Commercial Hub, too, so that sucks. I was hoping he'd be like Greenline and go for science early, rather than late. I'll need to make contact with Korea to try to funnel him towards Rome, because there's a real danger of him running away with this thing.

Yeah, it's a rough start, but with a random map these things happen. And then you stack the poor capital with TWO unlucky barb spawns - ah, well. We'll do our best to make it fun from here!

Cornered Whosit's scout in the north. He can retreat to the silver hills in the north to save one turn, but I have him the turn after that either way.

A new barb galley has spawned when I ventured out to try my luck against the quad, so back into the city to heal I go. If I had both ships, I could make headway here. And I'm not building a settler, not yet, I'm going to get out a builder instead, to pasture the horses, repair the turtles, and see what else is needful. THEN settler.

Then horses.

Next districts to go down will be harbors for lighthouses. If I can manage Feed the World and seafood, I might just make something viable from this start. We can't all have capital spices and honey. frown

That silver tile looks like it's flat, as is the tundra behind it. Then there's fog. So that scout might be able to slip away to the north and require a more committed pursuit to finish off.

Yeah, he sure did slip away to the north. I'm slowly advancing a net of warriors. Another one was bombarded by the quad - I've now spotted 2 quads adn a barb galley, and Quad 2 is nosing towards my other turtles. :/ What a mess.

Otherwise not much to report. Morale in Korutu is very low at the moment, as this game ahs felt like three straight weeks of kicks to the balls so far. Hopefully once I get my first trader online finally I'll begin to perk up.

Two or three more turns. I sink a barb galley, find a third barb camp in the tundra to the north, and corner the scout. I also manage to purchase and start my first trade route, while I research towards Celestial Navigation to unlock more harbors.

Plan is to hit a Classical Dark Age, found the religion, take Monasticism for extra culture and less science in all my cities, and race for Serfdom. Getting out two settlers and then some units to conquer Hong Kong before Harbor builds.

Turns 58-60

Not too much to report in my corner. We corner Whosit's scout near the barb camp in the north, kill it, and begin to regroup to take out the northern camp. I also find a peace offer from Whosit, which I accept once the scout is dead (he started it). Don't want him hanging around for future pillages, possibly. In the south, I sink a galley and a quad and am driven back into the city by the second quad. Our first trader is up, our two holy sites are done, and two settlers are on the way.

Needful things:
- Shrines to speed up Great Prophet (also Feed the World or Choral Music synergy)
- 3 horsemen
- builders?
- Harbors -> Lighthouses, we're out of housing
- Granaries (see: housing)j
- Monuments (Serfdom is our targeted power spike).
- Political Philosophy - we'll be in a Dark Age so we have access to the excellent Monasticism policy card, which grants -25% science but +75% culture at all our cities with holy sites (ie, all of them). But you need a wildcard slot in your government to run it and those only come at the PP civic.

Milscore is good, empire score is terrible, I'm really only concerned about my major lag in food and production at the capital. I can fix it, but that all takes investment of production itself and meanwhile the other players are using that production to surge ahead.

Any newbie questions I can answer?
