Miguelito declaring war on you doesn't make much sense to me: is he responding to your buildup? Or maybe trying to settle the empty area to his north? Maybe he's just remembering his last game where he swept the map with wizards, summons, and fireballs.
It sounds like you're behind in this game, and need more/bigger cities to compete. I think you need to appear unappetizing as a conquest target while looking for opportunities to grow your civ and improve your research.

Part and part.
I really think, converting the barb city is a pink dot.
I collect part of my army there, but at first, I had less than Mig.
Till I promoted the first Adept to wizard, Mig had always more (and better) units. - In part catapults.
I had a rapid built up in response to that.
It is not the case, that I don't prepared for a war, but Mig started a lot earlier.
I asked for open borders from Mig and git them.
I used it to attack the barbs.
Maybe I should have focussed the fort at first.
Let's be noted, Mig declared the second war too.
Fine by me, I don't think this will be easy, but I think this will be the best way to a better position.
I have a Corn/Corn with mackoti and a copper/copper with coldrain, so I hope I have a free back and maybe assistance from coldrain.
Fireballs go - you can see the new city in the northeast.
I'm already thinking of invading next turn. 4 fireballs with the spellstaffs and then go in with a haste from the new adept in the background ?
Still, there are 4 catapults southeast of Deluoc.
This is my peace offer.
I don't think Mig will take it, but I think, I have an edge here.
I have wizards and swordsmen, Mig has catapults (and since this turn chariots).

I really need to update here - I think I will capture my first city next turn - only the barbcity.
My bombardment of Delouc continues - first win last turn, an archer a 70% fight.
Question: What function uses Loki to escape ? If it's the normal teleport, I see a small chance to kill Loki in 3 turns.
Anyway, a small info for Ref:
I trade maps with coldrain, so I can see the Murex grotto.
And If you want to use resources on mountains for another map, you need to create a river on the mountain, if you want to connect the resource - if you can believe Charriu

Loki retreats, like a horseman or other unit with a retreat chance, but his chance is 100%. So if he's in a city or has no tile to retreat into, you can kill him. If you have a bunch of fireball throwers, you could presumably surround him with fireballs (no need to cover mountains or water) and then drop one on top of him.
Edit: according to the manual, he can also be killed by first strikes.

Cool! So:
Murex Grotto Wrote:A small colony of merfolk in one corner of the bay raises and harvests a rare breed of rock snails in a deep-water grotto, completely inaccessible from the shore. The merfolk have learned the secret of inducing their snails to produce a uniquely vibrant purple dye, oft reserved for royalty, much prized by such merchants as can afford to invest in goods of such beauty and rarity. By learning to keep a calendar of tides, these merchants may meet with the merfolk at the right times of year to get access to the dyes in tradable quantities. Skilled deep-sea fishers, on the other hand, by bringing up delicacies from deeper waters than these bay merfolk can reach, can win more-regular and immediate profits at any time of year through barter with the little mercolony. The care, harvesting, and production of the rock snails and their dyes is a closely-guarded secret among the merfolk, and if raiders were ever to wipe out their colony, production would permanently cease: The occasional rock snail might be caught and crushed for a modicum of dye and a tiny annual profit gained thereby, but nothing on the scale of what could be attained with the help of the merfolk who live there today.

Ah - I wonder if there was a river in my tests, subsequently moved before the final map, that misled me on that then. Thanks for pointing that out, and I'll be on the lookout for this (and run further tests) if I include any connected mountain resources in future map designs!
And on Loki: When you attack him, he prefers to flee West rather than East, and South rather than North (i.e. in order of preference, on a numberpad, it would be 1 - 4 - 7 - 2 - 8 - 3 - 6 - 9) but he can't flee onto tiles he can't legally occupy (like water or peaks) nor onto tiles occupied by enemy-to-him units, nor onto to tile from which you attacked him, even if your attacker was the only one on that tile when the attack was made. According to my tests, first strikes won't kill him. None of your units will get any XP for forcing him to retreat, nor from killing him. In fact, it looks like you'll still get a message saying Loki has fled from combat even if you do kill him (by attacking when he's surrounded by impassable-to-him tiles and/or enemies) - it's just that you'll immediately thereafter get a message saying Loki has been killed, and he will indeed be dead.

Barb city conquest last turn.
Unfortunately cost a sword at ~70%.
I didn't notice the war.
2 lucky wins at 30% so far.
Now I'm also fighting the 1st battle with swordsmen.
I hit the BT in the north with a fireball.
This also means that Vincon is endangered.
But this is a small problem.
