Can you offer Greenline a joint war vs Whosit and request Gwangju in the deal? Obviously they won't give you a city to get you to declare war, and that's a pretty common signal in the Civ IV community to be ready for an attack against that city. Not exactly what you are looking to get across, but close enough that Greenline should have their attention drawn to the situation if they aren't already paying attention.

I cannot offer a Joint Declaration:

Must be unlocked by a civic, can't recall which.

I offer a DoF instead. The show of solidarity may give Rome pause, or it might sharpen Korea's senses to his OTHER neighbor. I have horsemen coming from multiple cities, which is the most modern unit I have. Can't take a Legion in open combat, not with a Great General, but it can at least slow up a Roman assault.

NEARLY got the barbs handled:

This one camp basically scuttled any competitive chance I had, so it will be VERY nice to clear it! Archer is in range to support, no quads in sight, and the galleys are slowly being whittled down. Growth is still slow but I can get LIghthouses and Shrines to fix that, and THEN my capital will be where Rome's was 70 turns ago. :D

Borderlands. I can still squeeze in 5 or 6 cities plus Hong Kong:

Huh. Apparently Joint Wars unlock with foreign trade, but one of the two civs needs to have denounced the target at least five turns earlier. So no "surprise" joint wars are possible.

Neat:

Our Horseman is the first in the world, apparently. Well, if Whosit is watching our horse stocks at least he'll know we're building them and thus semi-capable of defending ourselves. Not in a prolonged campaign but perhaps enough to deter him? I commission another horseman from Korutu to give me a force of 3 squadrons by turn 84. I'll need a ram and warriors to take down Hong Kong's wall, though.

We finish Bronze Working and there's one source, third ring from Korutu and from Tekisanzu, since I failed to note that. That is the only iron nearby, though, which will make building infantry and knights problematic.

Now I'm not sure what comes next. I need a Shrine, a Harbor+Lighthouse, and a Granary+Monument still, ideally. And more builders, and more settlers. I've forgone the plaza for the moment, clearly. For the newbies, the Government Plaza is a district that grants access to mutually exclusive government buildings, like the Ancestral Hall (each new city gains a builder upon founding) and the Audience Chamber (governors grant housing and amenities to their cities). I might actually go for Audience CHamber here, since I"ll clearly have a smaller number of housing-desperate cities. Anyway, not sure of the build order. I think Lighthouses are top priority, then Shrines, then everything else, since that grants me food AND housing AND trade routes, which in turn translates to science and culture.

Korea accepted my DoF. I think about denouncing Rome but hold off.

Finally got you, you bastard:

The hardest part was clearing the quadremes, which would have shot to death any warrior attempting to clear the camp before I got a grip on the seas. The little fiends pillaged my turtles at least three or four times and shut down all harbor construction.  BUT IT'S ALL SUNSHINE NOW :D

Just one galley left to clear, I think.

The borderlands between us and Rome & Korea:

Room for many cities if I can manage to expand here. Lots of bays and inlets.

Finished my first trade route, and relocate the trader to the less-developed Shiku:

The trader will bring in more food, production, gold, culture, and science to the new city and speed up its own harbor build. Figure my best snowball here is getting as many trade routes as quickly as possible, and builders to chop infrastructure. Rome is 3 turns from its general (and 3 turns from Crassus - every city  has a commercial hub, as he's doing the same thing I am with trade routes back to his capital. That's also where his science comes from via the Free Inquiry golden age, which grants him science equal to his hubs' gold generation).

Continue to scout the south, I might be able to stake up a defense around the volcano-river valley, and at the isthmus to the south, to clear some land for Japan?

Also, glancing at the forum, greenline hasn't updated in 5 days, despite something like 10 turns since then. Uh oh. Legion rush while I ineffectively peck away at Rome's eastern border with horsemen, Whosit rides his snowball to an easy win? Might be what we're looking at in the next two weeks here.

Rome is making roughly 40 gpt, plus has Crassus for another 180 gold at some point. He's at 650 now, so in 5 turns when the GG spawns he'll have another 380, or over 1000 gold. What joy. That translates to 1000/150 = 6 2/3 Legion upgrades. Korea has 100 gold and is making 15 per turn, so he'll manage to scrape up...175 gold. I'm not even sure he has iron. Tourdion is STILL strength 10, which means he hasn't built a single Classical unit still! At least build one damned horse so your city strength upgrades! So he has to build - from scratch - horses or swords to take on a Great General = call it 7 45 strength legions (figure Whosit will come up with the last bit gold in a turn or two). *I* couldn't stop that, not in 6 turns, but Korea will just crumple up.

Now, MAYBE Whosit is recruiting a great general and hoarding gold purely for his good health, but personally I rather doubt it.

If things go as I expect, I advise y'all to head over to Whosit's thread in <10 turns and watch the fireworks.

The Archduke (TAD) is a very strong player with a very strong civ. Surely he will not allow Whosit to run away with the game just like that? Unless ofcourse a barb camp spamming quads appeared next to his capital smile.

Whosit has a DoF with either Archduke or Krill, not sure which. Krill has the Encampment, but Archduke has the higher score. Not sure which I'd prefer Rome to have a safe border with tbh.
