[PB78] Underdogs and undercats: The Mrrshan warlords visit the world of Civ IV

Turn 94

No longer last in cities.

But last in power.

How many cities are planned in the area between Fieras and SD ?

It’s ok because the others border each other tightly while our exposed side is very small and the rest we need to defend only against scouting chariots. This will change later and I expect to see surprise strikes by 2-movers from unexpected sides, however we are still the backward civ and no one but Gav has much to gain from hurting us.

Gav does have several chariots that I have not seen in a while and he has a warrior checking out our cities so it’s possible that he’s planning something. But hitting one or two of our new cities isn’t going to help him much, and he’s under enough pressure from Magic that I think he’s happy to keep the peace for a while. However, I will add more spears shortly as well as a sentry chariot or two.

For SD there is an oromo warrior blocking the choke 1N3E from Coldstone so until T120 it would be quite far for him to reach the area you see. I’d love to settle a city 4E of his but I’d like to keep good relations and don’t want to press into him the way I did with Gav and Magic. What dotmap would you suggest? Btw if you look closer, there is a new barb city 5S2E from Coldstone.

Thank you. Right now the most important thing is to expand and grow because I'm still severely behind on foodhammers and haven't been able to build a single cottage yet. There is plenty of land left to claim so I'll be colonizing hard even if it takes the economy down to zero. Currently break even is at 40% research but my net gpt is still pretty good and I was first to currency and CoL. I'm also building swords to conquer New Vegas, which is timed for 6 turns from now. Hopefully this doesn't bring me into conflict with Dreylin who's on the other side of the sea, but a second barb city will keep me afloat while I get cottages and infra, and is worth the risk.

Magic has taken a clearly dominant position with the highest number of cities, the colossus and the great lighthouse, and has a net gpt of 65 vs my 40 and everyone else's 15-25. However this seems to be bringing the rest of us to work together and even the Gav situation feels very relaxed. I don't think we can dogpile Magic yet but if we keep developing he can't possibly compete with 4 civs on a torus map where he shares a border with everyone. I think he's pretty good at micro but doesn't think about the big picture and hopefully this will be his downfall.

Not sure what Dreylin is up to since I had the impression that he was a good player from PB75 but his gnp is very low, power is average, and he doesn't seems to have accomplished much even though he had some prime land with natural 5f tiles that didn't need improving. Could be a result of the religion chase. SD flipped two barb cities but lost one to Magic and will probably be falling behind from here due to not so good micro. Gav flipped the barb city near his capital but this could be mixed luck because Magic has also settled that sea and they had a previous skirmish in the area. Gav must be a good player since you don't win a big PB with luck alone, and I'm happy that I went after him early and that he's now compressed between everyone and there is tension with Magic.

My hope is that Magic sees Gav as the biggest long term threat which is also easy to eliminate right now so he goes after him while the others are not yet in position to join in. Ideally this gives me some time to keep expanding, and then we do a 3vs1 against him with Dreylin and SD. But the game changes every few turns so for now I'll keep growing in the most efficient way possible and then see what opportunities arise.

Turn 99

Two interesting things. It turns out that Magic has settled the entire super rich area east of SD, which should have really been claimed by SD because he had easy road and rail access directly from his capital. So Magic is actually in an extremely strong position at the moment, and SD isn't doing nearly as well as it seemed.

The second thing is that Gav settled next to Diamond city which still doesn't have a monument, so even if it builds one soon Gav will have a lead time to flip it before it can pop borders. If he does manage, it will be a result for him and will make him much stronger. Something I don't like but which can tip Magic over to attack if he was unsure. As I said previously, the best development for me is if Magic and Gav get into a mutually destructive war and there is a good chance that it happens because Magic needs to pick us off one by one and quickly before we can dogpile him, and Gav is still fairly weakened but rapidly gaining strength, especially if he flips Diamond city.

How is your development in the west ?

Do you have graphs of everybody ?

Fierias is whipping spears as we'll need more units for the next wave of settlers. Whynil (the new city 3S from Fierias) is chopping a granary and popping borders in 5t, which will bring in a new pig and a coastal cottage. More settlers coming soon.

I have graphs, yes. What would you like to see?

Turn 101

Two new developments. Magic settled next to Shady Sands and will probably flip it. I'm not in a position to do anything about it, and SD seems to be very passive. I don't know how he allowed Magic to get all that good land which is much closer to him, especially since it was pre-roaded/railed.

We may end up in a skirmish with Dreylin over New Vegas. I landed my units and he landed 2 horchers last turn with maybe more coming. We exchanged some diplo messages but it seems that both of us very much want the city. I'm pretty sure I'll get it but hopefully we can continue peaceful relations after that.

Whipping spears ? Okay, this is my CF thinking. I don't like spears.
They are good against most mounted units, so...

Graphs are relative good to show a general position - better than the demo, because you got history.
GNP is quite difficult to read, but the other graphs ?

Whats your goal near New Vegas ?
When do you attack and would you cede the city to Dreylin ? - Either when your attack falls short, Dreylin attacks first and got lucky or when Dreylin attacks your weakened troops.
