Capturing Hong Kong and settling along the east coast should be a considerable help to those Loyalty figures, enough that judiciously placed governors should stabilize things. Definitely the Victor "+4 loyalty for cities within nine tiles" promotion is worth grabbing.

I like the thought of levying Hong Kong to throw those Men at Arms at Whosit. Burning a city or two could really set him back, and maybe give Archduke or someone else the chance to pile in. Is your envoy situation stable enough to make that possible?

Sure isn't! Rome's massive culture income gives Whsoit envoys to spare, and he wrested Hong Kong back on that turn. It's about 1,000 gold to levy, so it's a massive financial risk without a bunch of envoys in hand.

Welp, so much for that then.

What's your Hong Kong conquest timeline? Do they have medieval walls up yet? Probably best to kill them sooner than later, if nothing else so their wandering units have less of value to pillage.

I'd like to kill them, but I need to get my Samurai all up, and get out a siege unit. They have more men at arms than I have units, naturally.

Krill declares war on Whosit and invites me to join:

I decline (for now), but Denounce Whosit so Krill can see the show of support, and I will work to get my Samurai upgraded. I have 3 of those and 3 horsemen when all is said and done, pretty pathetic, but amybe enough to do something at Hong Kong.

Krill has Cartography, which is interesting.

Must be nice to have so much science.

cartography? oh my.... seems like a tell for a frigate beeline and upgrade. how is their GPT rate doing, have they been saving up any? and do they have the tech for niter?

good thing krill is making the right meta call and, presumably, using their attack timing to rein in the runaway. more time to tokugawa!

He's saved 369 and is making 150 gpt, so about 1 frigate/turn. We can hope that Whosit has a vulnerable coastline! I'll finally map the far west soon and make contact with Archduke using my Great Admirals and galley scouts.

i guess worst-case they can at least raze that captured city-state in the north..... although if they do that, we might then have to worry about a frigate squad with nothing to do turning around and hitting us just because it can...... not that there's really a ton we can do about it if they do decide to go for that route :/

sounds like they are more likely to be niter-limited than gold-limited in that case. especially if, as with most random maps, this one is much less generous about placing strategics in close distance to the player capitals than is the hand-edited RB standard. do they have a stockpile yet / can we tell anything about their niter accumulation rate?

I think next time we need to at least a BIT of map balancing. At least check the option? :D Look at that gorgeous capital. Very jealous.

I've kind of stopped paying attention to the wider game - in "fuck it, chuck it" mode if you will. We're down late in the third quarter and need some hail mary's, so I'm counting on Whosit being a bit of a waffler and trying to push out all my remaining settlers over a few turns. THEN I'll crank out a military to hold the line and THEN try to get my final infrastructure down. :D

My fifth city is crappy but it was close and a necessary loyalty anchor to the future cities. Already has a good trade route out of it so that helps.
