[PB81 Mjmd] Heave Away

I may put other things here eventually, but for now the capital song.

While normally I don't do tier lists I do think all the players should do one before the groups get decided to help out the lurkers.

Play above song then start reading.

So ya we are splitting continents by skill so lets do this.

All my opponents please don't take anything in the below negatively.

Higher skill continent:

1) TBS - easy pick
Edit: Hitru if he signs up - not sure how to rank TBS and him, but he said he wouldn't have tons of time, so putting below TBS.

I debated bout doing seperate spoiler tags and letting you scroll down a bunch in the first one and making eveyrone else in a seperate tag, but would just annoy people.

2) ME??? - Am I really 2nd here? MAYBE? I mainly place myself here because I see myself as more consistent than
3) Nauf - he is a much better SD. Sure he can just veer off and self destruct like SD, but he plays a better early game than SD, has long term plans, and can build a good economy.

The uncertain 4 through 6 - this is where lurkers are going to have difficulty as I am. I am NOT confident of these rankings. If Gav had joined things would be much clearer although MUCH scarier. Edit: if Hitru joins just do 4-5 and put everyone below here in the other continent.

4) SD - OH BOY would he be pissed if he is on the higher skill contienent. While his warfare skills aren't always great, sometimes they are (specifically against me grumble grumble). His early game is ok, but not up to any of the above and his late game economy is almost never a thing, but he will be a threat in the knight era (and before) and he almost always does well enough to be relevant in that time frame (although sometimes self destructs earlier).
5) Xist - I wasn't that impressed in PB72 with his expansion although he put up a descent defense, he was super agressive in PB74 and moved his capital, but he seems to be doing better in the PB79 greens game, but it is a greens game and obviously I'm not fully aware of how he has played that. I know he has a whole host of recent games over at the German forum, so may need some input from people who read over there how good he actually is and maybe that input puts him in 4th.
6) I think some people will have Dreylin higher than this, but a lof of his games were before I started lurking so I don't have a good sense. I won't judge him too much for PB74 as he was rushed. However, his performance in PB75 to me was a bit underwhelming. Now I don't know the whole of this game yet either and from what I can see he put up a reasonable defense, but still that is all I have to rate him on. Again, with his earlier experience and people with more insight to his PB75 performance maybe he makes it to the 4th slot?

Lower skill continent:
7) Greenline - he has gotten loads better and his expansion skills seem up with the above three at least. Its very possible he should be with the above, but he hasn't had a break out game where he has done well yet other than PB72 greens game.
8) Gira - I like this game concept specifically as a way to get greener players to sign up for non green games. Gira seems to be doing better than his past games in PB79 as far as I can tell, but again greens game and ongoing so hard for me to say. Speaking of, if anyone is feeling kind, please go ded lurk him here. I think he is probably the player who needs it most.

Not going to comment on player rankings here, but I will ofcourse do so in the lurker thread. I do have my own list, but want others to chime in, and I might even be swayed by how the players rank themselves.
Playing: PB74
Played: PB58 - PB59 - PB62 - PB66 - PB67
Dedlurked: PB56 (Amicalola) - PB72 (Greenline)
Maps: PB60 - PB61 - PB63 - PB68 - PB70 - PB73 - PB76

I would use the players EXCEPT for themselves. Its human nature to overestimate or underestimate yourself.

xist's record is abysmal. Which could easily be seen in his play. PB79 is already by far the best game he has ever played. Maybe he has improved. If not you have him ranked too high by a significant margin.

I have less games to go off of, so make sense some of my rankings would be off. I wasn't impressed with Greenlines defense in PB72 whereas I was impressed by xist's defense in that game. Just like I'm probably underrating Dreylin because I have so few games to go off of.

With Tarkeel starting the map I'm just going to throw out some map thoughts / expectations. Obviously can do whatever the heck you want, but why not.

- I think mirrored continents would be cool. Not like everything is mirrored within the same continent (although I wouldn't mind), but have the two continents be the same. I think we've had times where two groups have played the same map and I think its cool to see the difference of decisions especially with players being split by skill groups I know as both a lurker and a player trying to improve that would be my pick. Also I'm pretty sure you can just copy a continent with that one tool (name escaping) so its less work!

- Hot take the lower skill continent is going to host the winner this game. Most likely that 5th or 6th skill player. Wars are going to be easier over there. Well unless TBS just runs over us all on the experienced continent. I'm doing some heavy debate on if I would even take broken America because while its great it may not be if your very likely to neighbor TBS and have at least 1 other crazy ruin your game neighbor. So more defensive civs are on my mind (or maybe India).

- To combat the above I would love some larger astro islands and or small continents (probably 2 equal distance dividing the player continents, but maybe above and below instead). Or maybe astro islands and continents.

- The start should have an AH resource. With getting a worker and an extra tech the obvious start is to have mining as one of your starting techs, go BW, and chop like hell. I'm not saying make AH first be the clear choice, but probably should be a choice. And mind I've done the skip AH and chop thing plenty of times and I love India, so this suggesting is mainly to help other players have that option if they want it because 9/10 I don't.

- Just going to chuck out having a calendar resource on starting hill again to help speed up tech. Starting with a worker its actually going to be hard choosing a mysticism civ even with (and actually because of) an extra tech. Unless my first like 4 options are taken I don't think I'm taking Holy Rome, but I am considering it (and India because India heart ). Then I realized that it might be more of a detriment than normal to start with myst because wheel is going to be such a big deal for early expansion and getting food techs, bw, and wheel on an accelerated timeframe starting with myst is going to be near impossible.

This hasn't been decided; I think most people wanted the tech but maybe not the worker. Whatever gets decided here will be taken into account for starting resources though.

I've said it before, but I actually liked the "choice" we were forced in PB74 to go very early AH, the issue there was that most starts did not have that dilemma.

I think I've done AH first in PB63, 65, and 66, so actually more often than I thought. If I had chosen a different civ I also would have done in PB75.

Ya I wasn't sure where we were on advanced ish start, but its what you had originally stated so that is where my thoughts were turning on. I would recommend testing what this feels like before deciding.

If we do go with extra tech might be wise to ban Byzantium.
