[PB79] Just one more Game

What is the current outlook?

Rick should be eliminated within a short time.
Chokos are not outstanding against prets - hill, city wall and full entrenchment should be enough to make the prets nominally as strong as the chokos even after maximum collateral damage. Only with half as much HP.
No OG with me prevents a possible intervention on my part - Knights against Chokos on the open field sounds like a good idea.
Although of course I would rather attack Rick.

Gira is in an interesting position.
As far as I know, Gira has 3 short land borders. But a longer sea border with me. Possibly also a sea border with Miro.
Sea borders are always difficult, but Gira is the only one who has not yet unlocked his UU (and his UB).
The question is whether this will help, but Gira remains a potential threat, especially for me.
From my understanding of the map, I am currently the primary expansion vector for Gira.

Miro will probably annex Rick soon.
That would put Miro at 25 cities, most of which should be on land.
I have to be careful that Miro doesn't march any further, but 1 movement Chokos is not really impressive offensively, I think - unless you build on Praetorians.

coldrain has the sea border with me and the land border with miro.
Honestly, I can't judge coldrain very well. coldrain's graphs are currently distorted by GZ, but coldrain is probably ahead of Gira.
I think coldrain still needs to expand and there are currently only 2 targets. Miro or myself.
Gira is in a relatively unfavourable position for coldrain.

I still see myself in a very good position at the moment.
There are just a few problems.
I'm slowly running out of tiles for some cities.
And I'll soon be bordering on all 3 other players.
Sea borders like with Gira and coldrain are always vulnerable, plus the land border with Miro.
Combined with the fact that I can definitely be recognised as the game leader?
I would like to see the number of players reduced to 3 in the medium term. With 3 players, I expect we enter a standoff where I hope to have a lead.
With 4 players ? I fear a two front war in the future.

I still have an advantage. I think I have enough land to keep up or even pull away. Especially if I can get the 2 cities from Rick.
I don't think I need to initiate a war.

So what is my current game plan?
Vulture the 2 "Border" cities from Rick (with to built knights), then continue building.
Hopefully 27 cities should be enough for now.
Maybe try to conquer the Dutch islands with rifles/galleons to reduce the danger of the UU.

Thanks for the overview!

Carthage is lovely, but my heart weeps for the two unworked riverside grasslands.

Thapsus also looks fantastic; are you planning lumbermills on the forests?

How do you find full-cost Cothons, are they worth building?

Which two cities are you targeting from Rick?

I agree, I have to much plain grassland. Like I said, I need more worker or better worker micro.

I'm not sure what I plan to built on the 2 forest tiles. Lumbermills (not saw mills) are a option - or classic cottages.

I really like the Cothons. Often they are better than courthouse.

I'm targeting Cumae - 6 tiles SE of Leptis - and the unknown city 4 tiles S of Carmona.
So both "bordercities".

Can I have a new map ?

Ouch. alright

The circumnavigation bonus is available on any map where atleast 33% of the tiles are water.

That's a bummer. Most Tectonics maps have enough water for circumnavigation, but specifically not the Lakes script.

I knew about the 33% requirement.
I didn't think that this would be a real problem. There was explicit an announcement, that the water will play a significant rule (a reason for my Carthage pick and for Gira Netherlands pick).
I thought this includes circumnavigation.

And I think, if we take out the islands, we have (over) 33% water.

Optics is no big mistake - Caravels and more sight are not that bad, but the (wrong) reason was the circumnavigation. So I could have researched engineering instead ?

I really should have tested the circumnavigation, because I did wonder about the missing announcement, but I thought this is a CtH speciality.

Test shows, I will get the bonus only next turn.
So there remains hope ?

Yeah, CtH circumnavigation triggers the turn after the tech. I have no idea on the water til percentage here.

I had no idea about the water percentage thing either until I read the posts in this thread. Something to keep in mind for future maps I guess.
