[SPOILERS] yuris125 praying to RNGesus

Commodore's golden age ended with him adopting Mercantilism / Theocracy. Shorter than expected, but I guess Banking is all he needed, and Mercantilism makes sense for him, with so many cities and me not signing OB

He is still out of slavery though.... admittedly slavery becomes less powerful as cities grow larger, and he likely thinks his army is big enough to deter an invasion. And tbf he can already start building his own knights without slavery, and my invasion is not imminent (and I didn't even ask about Pindicator joining yet, can't commit to an invasion turn until I'm certain I can claim the horses

Pindicator's sword showed up at the barb city

I probably can get the first mace there in time to take it even if Pindicator attacks twice and wins twice, but would like to do so amicably

Hence, AI diplo attempt

Intended meaning: let me have this spot, and we can go attack Commodore in 10 turns

Tbf if Pindicator kills some of the defenders for me, it would speed up my timetable a little, as revolt timer will be rolling while workers are still sailing. But I don't want him to feel I stole the city without saying anything

Pindicator sent back just a war with Commodore from both sides and iron for iron. Not sure he understood the message

Next turn I will land the first mace next to the city, in his view, and see how he reacts (the rest of the expeditionary force is a couple turns behind)

I made a fairly big blunder. I thought Pindicator didn't have units which could reach the barb city this turn - I forgot keshiks exist

I could've taken the city this turn if I looked first. But I didn't, and unloaded the only unit I had which could hit it

Remind me please, if I send several diplo messages to Pindicator on the same turn, will he see them in the order I sent them, or in reverse?

99.9% certain they appear in the order sent.

Thanks!

So, diplo

First: recommitment to common war against Commodore

Second: I really need horses (not only does this message hopefully conveys the desperation, but makes it easy to see that I don't have them)

Third: let me have the horse/pig city

Don't think I can be much clearer, but of course, AI diplo is open to interpretation. But you see why the order was important, I wanted the message which can be interpreted as a demand to be last

If Pindicator goes ahead and takes the city, I will ask for it - doesn't get much plainer. If he doesn't let me have it, the war is not happening

Do you think settling the islands can make up for your quality of land up until now?

No. The islands would be split between Pindicator and myself, and while I would be settling them and getting new cities up to speed, Commodore would only get farther ahead. War is the only answer now I believe

If I didn't cede the peninsula which allowed galley access to these islands to Pindicator, and I settled them earlier, then perhaps - land on them is faily high quality, and of course any island cities would've benefitted from Colossus. But as I said before, the decision to not contest the peninsula made sense at the time

Diplo success!

Pindicator's message was "horse/pig for fish/crab/sheep/corn", so I take it I should not contest the rest of the island and Aryan. I'm perfectly happy with that. Notably, he did not include copper/cow, so I guess the eastern island is fair game

4 turns revolt after taking the city. Annoying, but nothing for it, as I didn't prepare to raze/resettle

Me trying to hide from Commodore that I have Guilds is not going to work - he's going to see my workshops go from 1/2 to 1/3, thanks to still having a scouting workboat from back when we fought over Ulm

Of course, depends on how much attention he's paying, this is much less obvious than seeing Guilds research on the score pane

Cities are building harbours, should help me still have an economy once knight whipping starts. I should also have time to get a settler for the copper/cow island before then
