[SPOILERS] yuris125 fumbling and clicking buttons

What to do when I feel like after so many years I'm finally getting the grasp on Civ4 MP?

That's right, start fumbling my moves in a different game

Come laugh at my fumbles

So I've been looking at some Civ6 resources, and a lot of them say that Victoria's Age of Steam persona is very strong

Obviously I know very little about Civ6, but +2 hammers on all strategic resources sounds very op to me

Then I see Victoria on my list of pick options

Just to be absolutely sure, this version of her is a legal pick, right?

You can choose either version of Victoria, yes.

OK, I'm going to lock in Victoria (Age of Steam) then. Let's see how op she actually is, and if her power can carry me

I am not sure I would call OP having +2prod on strategic ressources. On a random map, you get what around 1-2 per city (and you need to 'see' them and not have built a district on them before seeing them) so short term it is only horse and iron

Played a quick test game. Man, Civ6 early turns are so slow, worse than Civ4

Seems like I will have to put at least a little effort into early research, cost scalings be damned. I see the following priority techs: AH and Mining to see early strategic resources and leverage my leader bonus, Celestial Navigation for unique harbours, Archery and HBR to be not completely defenceless. Plus my impression is that there's so many plantation resources, Irrigation is more or less mandatory

Religion is unlikely to be a priority, hopefully I'll find a tile or two with faith yields for pantheon, and leave it at that - just focus on culture and gold in the early game

Yeah it is just horses and iron. We'll see how impactful it is. But my impression is that production is scarce enough in Civ6 early game that having access to unimproved 3-hammer tiles early on is quite powerful

Thanks!

I like the look of all these hammers

I'm less off a fan of not seeing any water when starting as England. I really want to take advantage of my cheap harbours, and now I know I won't have one in the capital (unless I move, but trying to find something better than this starting spot doesn't seem reasonable)

I'm also not a huge fan of not seeing culture or faith-producing tiles

I wonder if going warrior first is reasonable with this start. Don't think I need an early builder, the play will almost certainly be unit into settler, and I think a warrior will be more useful than a scout during early expansion

And probably AH first for research, to see horses and extra hammers that come with them. The map will dictate the tech order thereafter

Good luck! I haven’t played Civ6 since the first expansion but production was generally the most important tile yield. The +2 on strategic sounds strong especially if it can be unlocked early.

Also you do have Marble for a culture producing tile.
