Galleons lose to mass whipped caravels due to the cost difference in producing each ship (or at least they have in several PBEMs). It just requires massing caravels so that you can attack wherever the galleons are stacked up.

In this case, 5/9 galleons are promoted to move an extra tile. Also I offered Yuri 30 gold per turn after scouting that... Only 11 caravels on scene, but went from 18 to 22 in total when pressing end turn.
I like the new pfp (even if it threw me for a second)!

It's a fun one, innit? The crazy AI-generated hairless Chinese man was making my posting style too hostile.
Anyway, I just logged back in briefly to offer Scooter iron/iron and war-with-Yuri/war-with-Yuri.
Yuri accepted a 30-gold-per-turn deal and sailed away. 'Danegeld' is a nicer problem to have than being conquered.
Galleys are just too damn slow. Need to get galleons.
But on the plus side, we now have 2 shrines and 20 cities. The confucian shrine city had a lot of banked untyped GP points from the library UB, so I was able to get a 2nd prophet very rapidly using 4 priest specialists. Simply NOT whipping for a while will count as quite a bit of catching up. How much pop is it to support a free unit, with or without Vassalage?
I still only have 150 net income in turn 171.
That's with 30 going to Yuri in Dangeld, and 50 on unit upkeep. So if those two expenses decline by 30 and 10 in ten turns, I would be on 190, passing 200 from the extra pop income. Still not good. Scooter now has 34 cities, I have 20, Yuri 19, SD and Cairo a little fewer. Hopefully, Yuri attacks Scooter now, otherwise with +50% scorelead it's too late. |
