[PB82 Tech Thread] 3-city elimination

With a roomy map we should also use the "No Barb Cities" option, otherwise it will turn into a barb city capture race.

The goody hut TECH rewards can be changed to HIGH_GOLD:

That's great, huts should be fine without tech rewards

Sequential pick does indeed work better than snake for sequential turns

I think this is an acceptable way to put it. I would say a pass to ensure a screwed-looking player is less screwed would be nice, while I'm less worried about someone getting a strong start randomly. Part of what I'm interesting in finding out here is if 3-city elim has a self-balancing effect.

Can we ban Byzantines as well? Classical takes away the downsides of picking them and puts us one era closer to Cataphracts. Feels a little too strong here in a very Mongols-like manner.

Thanks for the confirmation and directives - and thanks for the offer, Tarkeel; it would be great to have your eyes on the map to make sure it looks fun to play and in line with the player expectations!

I've now rolled and very-lightly edited a four-player map, broadly following the above instructions, and posted possible starting screenshots and the full WBSave to the Lurker thread. I'll hope for comment from Tarkeel or others in case I missed something important, but otherwise, it's good to go. Note as far as I know the 3-city-elim setting (and sequential turns) needs to be set up when creating the actual game, not in the WBSave file.

This is correct.


Also worth noting, I have never heard of a Pitboss using x-city elim before. I can definitely confirm the setting is there in the Pitboss creation wizard and can be set, but it is vaguely possible something unexpected happens I guess. I'm OK with this risk and don't think it will be a problem.
