I'm rusty on this, tell me if this is right: the +25% defense works like walls so it doesn't work against gunpowder units, right? Are we allowed to tell Donovan that, since he wanted it for vs muskets?

Yeah that's correct. I don't see how there could be much harm in telling him at this stage. He already built the thing. May as well know how it works.

There are a few reasons Chichen Itza is usually pretty bad, though situational, and they're getting discussed now. One though seems to get missed the most. We like to talk about how some choices are Win More choices and of questionable value as a result.

Chichen seems to be an underrated wonder at Realms Beyond. It's useless in singleplayer and inherently reactive/defensive, so it's difficutl to truly leverage it, but it sure does help slow down a potential invader. Ljub got good use out of it in PB75, and Thrawn, Ljub, and I all had our eyes on it for this game, when set defenses are vitally important for protecting whichever borders you aren't invading across.

Well, Chichen Itza is a Lose Less wonder most of the time. This comment is correct that it slows down a potential invader, but if you have a potential invader, you are likely already losing the game. It's noteworthy that he rattled off several examples of people who did not win their games . A wonder whose primary ability is delaying your death sucks. The reason it's "useless in singleplayer" is because in SP, you expect to win the game.

Another game where leading player chases Statue only to be punished. I've said it a few times now that I think Statue is shiny trap if other people are close. Its not even that shiny on this map and Magic made quite a detour by the looks of things for it. Dreylin shows him now teching printing press, but if he hadn't detoured to Democracy he might be at or nearly at rifling. That is just channeling his inner Willem right there. Although, even Willem might have gone printing press first.
