I decide to take a risk

The barb axe is not to be seen this turn, although it could be N of the tile where it killed my archer. This makes it possible to move the settler in position for the southern city. Of course, the jungle is full of dangers, and I wouldn't want to move the settler next to a barb. But what about a worker?

I decided to go for it. Cornflakes recently moved a scout throught the jungle, and I had workers roading the rice last turn, limiting where the barbs could spawn. I thought the odds of not running into a barb were good enough

There were indeed no barbs, so I moved the settler. I can still back out of it if I see something next turn - but if I don't I'm settling. It is risky, the city will be undefended for at least 2 turns, until my axe gets there. There's definitely a window for me to lose it without a fight. But with both Cornflakes and Scooter already on 3 cities, and me suffering early setbacks, I feel taking the risk is better than sitting on the settler for 3 turns, with workers also not doing much useful things (they can't e.g. road towards the horse city because of the stupid barb axe)

Settler for city 4 will be whipped in 2 turns, with overflow into another axe. If this works out, I will still be in reasonable position

The barb axe is back on the murder tile

And it is combat 2?? did that one combat give it enough XP, or did it also run into someone's scout?

There's a bit of a conundrum if it moves east, since my axe has to move through flatland. If the barb axe attacks as it is now, it will have ~32% odds against a healthy axe with no promos. With how the game went so far.... that's scary

But I stick with risk-taking, close my eyes, and settle

Well, it's not barbs..... we'll see how much Scooter wants to make me suffer (or if Tarkeel takes that responsibility)

Good news - Scooter/Tarkeel did not declare war
Bad news - the axe moved exactly how I didn't want it to move, east of the sign towards Munich
I decided to assume Scooter won't declare war next turn as well, and moved the axe on the hill 2N of Munich, not along the road. It still gets to Munich in time to defend against the barb, should it continue towards the city
I also considered moving workers on that hill to road it, so that the axe was guaranteed to get to the city next turn, and I would be safe against the potential war declaration. In fact I decided to do it, but when I alt-clicked the workers to select both, they executed this turn's orders, i.e. continued farming. Not worth asking for a reload over it - it shouldn't matter if Scooter doesn't declare next turn - but if he does, I have an obscure game mechanic to blame

We're safe(ish)

The 4th settler unfortunately will have to wait until I deal with that stupid axe

Hamburg is getting a lighthouse and will be using the lake for that extra bit of food. I'm also getting a galley out of there to help protecting the seafood in the coastal city. Not ideal of course, but notI expect coast will be city 5 and iron city 6

The Axeman knows to block you from the Horse tile. That's a smart axe if you ask me.

Anyway, good luck versus the Barbarians.
