Well with that non sequitur out of the way (frankly I had no idea for this thread title).

As I don't yet know what civs I'll be picking from or what kind of state the map will be I'll just leave this as is for the moment.

I'll be grateful if anybody want to chime in with ideas or ded-lurk me.

Here's your starting screenshot, taken in Bare Map Mode.  The barbarian sign is just a randomized identifier for which start is which, but the tile it's on is the one where your units will start.  Note the fog may or may not be reliable, depending on whether I make any further changes for balance or aesthetics nearby.

And your first set of choices:

Valledia the Even (Organized, Arcane, Ingenuity) of the Amurites, with Mysticism
...or...
Auric Ulvin (Charismatic, Arcane, Agnostic) of the Illians, with Cartography OR Fishing OR Hunting
...or...
Charadon (Aggressive, Charismatic, Barbarian) of the Doviello, with no additional tech
...or ask to roll three different leaders and civs (up to twice).

Ok, pending confirmation that I have the right version installed, my choice is

Auric of the Illians with Hunting!

I promise no Samhain, especially as I wanted it banned (plus, knowing all my luck, all the frostlings would just converge on me in an orgy of violent death).

The start looks good, and very workable.

Hunting is the obvious tech for me to pick right from the gate, both because of the two resources and because it's twice as costly as Cartography.

Initial thoughts are to settle on the D and go worker first to hook up the deer and the elephants while teching calendar for the plantation resources.

After that tech cartography, tech up to bronze working and philosophy (though I might do Ancient Chants>Mysticism before BW just to get those going) and build an army with winter priest to go stompy, stompy, stompy!

The map looks hammer heavy at the moment, I could get in at least three relatively densely packed production cities from what I can see.

Will run some test games over the next few days to see what's what on various different starts and get a feel for my initial turns.

AFAIK, in this accelerated start, you will start with a 'free' worker (but obviously can start building a new one of course).

This is correct; everyone starts with a free worker (or worker-equivalent for their civ).

Want to note for bragging purposes I guessed you'd choose them!

I actually quite like the Illians (apart from Samhain) and the lack of religion is one less decision tree I have to make. Win-win!

Plus I have never managed to get a handle on the Doviello and I think the Amurites are a bit too late game focused (at least the way I play) to work for me in multi-player.

As I'm up home, I can't post pics, but I've the turn played.

I moved my warrior south west from the D, moved my scout south east south east. I then settled in place and moved my worker onto the flood plains and started farming and set production to a warrior.

For tech I picked calendar as I planned out over the last few days. I'll be able to play the turns as normal but reporting will be pic free for the next two days.
