[spoiler]Pindicator's pb80 thread

Hey Pindicator! I hope that you are enjoying your trip on the far side of the world. smile. Here is an update from the home front (a server in Germany).

Turn 219 to Turn 224 – 1795 AD to 1808 AD

We are still alive and at peace, for now, but our culture is a warzone.
Krill has units in and around Pisa, while Commodore controls everything else with his main force in Great Dane. Commodore does have a few units out of frame to the north on the Arctic islands.
“Don’t rock the boat.” scared.
It is so strange to see foreign planes circling above our cities.

Most cities are still building the Observatory and University duo that you started before your trip, but there are a few exceptions.
Pug and Malemute are training Machine Guns for everywhere.
Laika finished Ironworks and started on Mining Incorporated Executives. We have a Cereal Mills Executive from discovering Biology, and I am sending it to Laika too.
Pinscher is still building National Epic and National Park. About 15 turns out, though maybe chops or Mining Inc. could make it sooner.

The main Railroads for production and connection are mostly done. Next: Forest Preserves around Pinscher and secondary Railroads.

Also, there is room for two filler cities, one a bit NE of Sarmatian and one a bit NE of Newfoundland. I think that these filler cities will be instantly profitable from trade routes, and I don’t see any reason not to found them. There is already one Settler in Malemute, but I will need to train a second Settler somewhere.

We discovered Biology and I am saving money. What next? I guess research towards Industrialism for Infantry and Factories? Combustion for a sliver of naval relevance with Destroyers is also appealing. There aren’t any more commerce multiplier buildings in reach to add to the Observatory and University duo, are there?
Those can be rhetorical questions, by the way. Feel free to not worry about this while on your trip if you don’t want to.

Lastly, trade deals.
I don’t know how much the other players care about all these deals, so I won’t cancel any to avoid provoking them, but it would be nice to have those Mining Inc. resources back. And when someone founds Sid’s Sushi, those Fish might be worth more than one superfluous luxury each.
And seeing the trade: “Pigs for Hit Musicals” just cracked me up. lol.

EDIT: No more events yet.
EDIT2: Thoth built two of the spaceship components. I will check the Victory Screen next turn.

Looks great MS. I had this goal in my head of setting up a great person farm at Pinscher with National Epic, National Parks, and first preserves. Will this accomplish anything? No, but I thought it was neat. If you can accomplish that it would be cool but otherwise don't worry about it if you feel there's another way to go.

Turn 225 and Turn 226 and Turn 227 – 1810 AD and 1812 AD and 1814 AD

Founded Karakorum. It is instantly profitable, but it needs a Customs House to achieve the crazy Trade Route yields that our other cities have.
I have been quite interested in filler cities like this lately, and I am glad that this game gives me the opportunity to play around with 1 or 2 of them in the Industrial Era.

I never played in a sequential Pitboss before, so this end-of-turn order of operations is new to me.
I can select around to any unit or city, but I cannot move or change anything. I am asked to decide on new civics, technologies, and productions before logging out. And I hear Leonard Nemoy’s “You have discovered (the) [TECHNOLOGY]” after every discovery.
Perhaps I am easily amused. lol.

Victory Screen.
Commodore wins a Cultural Victory in at most 15 turns unless he is stopped. I looked back through the Event Log, and he does not have many or any Great Artists to help. Still, he will beat Thoth’s Science Victory and win before January 28th.
So, Pindicator, you are probably right that you already played your last turn this game. I thought that you were just being pessimistic about this civilization’s odds of survival when you said so earlier.

I really should have settled those filler cities. Thanks for doing that

It is an easy thing to neglect.

Turn 228 – 1816 AD

Founded Beshbalik.
I considered improving the surrounding Forests with Forest Preserves, but I decided against it. In this version of RtR, Forest Preserves are only as good as Lumbermills IF you have Environmentalism, and we can’t afford to revolt out of Free Market. Beshbalik doesn’t have the food to work either improvement anyway; it gets 1 Lumbermill and the rest will be Chops.
Also, Beshbalik and its unbuildable Castle reminded me that discovering Corporation on the way to Assembly Line will obsolete all the other cities’ Castles. This sucks. frown. Maybe another technology would be better.

Victory Screen (again)
Pool will achieve Legendary Culture in 14 turns. Commodore plays before us, so our last turn will be Turn 241 (or Turn 291, according to PBSPY). About January 27th…

The 3 Legendary Cities are inland, and I realized this turn that Krill and Thoth haven’t been burning Commodore’s cites or killing his units lately despite being at war, so the Cultural Victory seems pretty likely.
I wonder why Commodore and Krill/Thoth have so many units in our area? It is far away from the soon-to-be-Legendary Cities, so are those terrifying stacks just beefy scouting parties, to make sure they don’t get flanked? What percentage of their Power is tied up in our area anyway? contemplate.

In other news, other lucky players enjoy some Random Events.

Lastly, don’t worry, Pinscher will complete its National Epic + National Park combination in time. The Forests Preserves will be finished too, though I haven’t decided if the Tundra Lumbermills should be replaced with Forest Preserves or not.
I guess that fully embracing the idea means making as many Forest Preserves as possible.

Turn 229 through Turn 231 – 1818 AD through 1822 AD

Commodore and Krill compete to be elected Dictator-For-Life Of Pitboss 80. I abstained. Is a Diplomatic Victory even possible in multiplayer with this mod anyway?

Meanwhile, 10 turns remain, and time is flying by.

An eventful turnroll. Whales! I shall endeavor to obsolete them with what time we have left.
Poker is Legendary now. 8 turns remain.

Turn 234 – 1828 AD

Thoth launched his Spaceship with a full complement of components. Will it arrive in Alpha Centauri before Pool achieves Legendary Culture? I don’t know the speed of a fully-built Spaceship or if Commodore has any tricks left, so I don’t know. noidea.
I am confident that this game will end peacefully one way or another, though. Krill and Thoth probably wouldn’t even be at war with Commodore if this game wasn’t sequential anyway. No one is fighting and losing units. No one is burning any cities, let alone capitals. It's phony.
7 turns at most. popcorn.

First Forest Preserve finished. It just looks like an Ancient Pasture with no animals. For some reason I was expecting a golden particle effect or something.

I was inspired by the War Elephant garrison to make Pinscher into an Endangered Unit Preserve for all obsolete units from around our civilization. All War Elephants, Longbows, Macemen, and so on will come to Pinscher to survive in its National Park and show current Mongolians how their ancestors waged war.
Of course, foreigners might say that our proud Musketmen, Riflemen, and even Machine Guns also belong in a museum. smoke.

After the turn-roll, Uranium appeared under Karakorum. Not that we can do anything with it. It is strange how Uranium's visibility and its usefulness is staggered like this. I thought that we would at least be able to improve and connect it with Physics.
Not that I would complain if we could see Copper with Mining.

And do you notice the odd visual effect? The Uranium crystals turn some building and unit models invisible!

Fully built spaceship is 10 turns IIRC, missing an engine would be +2 more.
