I'll change the thread title later once I've either got my leader/civ or have some inspiration.   And figure out how to edit the thread title.

Well this looks like a great big pile of cowshit.

Need to do some thinking  but it's looking like Imp settler spam and a palace move once I find land that isn't complete shit before Biology.

Spi/Imp of Maya means micro managing civic swaps on a regular basis, freedom to GA when optimal rather than when civic swapping is wanted, cheap settlers, extra GG points, cheap Customs Houses (Yay!), and 10% reduced city maintenance (meh). Ball Courts for +4 happiness is really nice, St 5 spears are very good early and ok I guess in the Knight era due to cheapness but not as good as Phalanxes with their additional defensive bonuses)

And complete garbage for starting land.

So this will depend on how close the nearest neighbour with good land is. Or how much good land I can grab with Imp settlers and a pile of forests.

Starting city is still 100 gold but I should be able to buy settlers for 67 gold each so a capital + double settler opening is possible. Not necessarily a good idea but I've got a bit of time to think. Might be better off with another worker and using it to chop out the expansion settlers.

Setup completed as follows:

Settled on the red circle, popping the Cow hut for 52 gold (which I did not receive during the setup phase).

Built 1 settler (66), 1 archer, 1 scout (15), 3 workers (180), and 1 population point (33) leaving me with 1 gold on hand.

Please remember to add my 52 hut gold to my 1 gold leftover.  smile

Whys and opening play to follow.

I went with a settler and slightly delayed second city as my choice looks like another plains cow or gambling on the fog.  I'm fine with delaying the plains cow city for 3t in exchange for the 34 gold I saved vs building a second city.  The city wouldn't be connected to my trade network so it would be a net drain.  As it is, I'll have a road to a connected river tile for a trade route on founding (t3) and the plains cow pastured on t7.

Orange arrows are scout moves t0-6, blue are archer moves t0-6.

I wanted to build 2 extra scouts but there is a limit to 2 non-worker/settler units in each city so I spent my surplus gold on a population point in Mutal.  This lets me whip an Imperialistic settler on t5 if I've done my figuring correctly.  2 chops go into a granary on t6 which completes eot 8.  Growth to size 2 happens eot 9 thanks to the food bar filling half way up when a pop point is purchased.   Scout completes eot 11.

hmmmm.....if I chop with the third worker after the road and delay the pasture I can complete 3 chops on t6 and complete the capital's granary eot 6.  That's an extra 6 food in the granary

Spoiler for thinking out loud micro.....

and means I'll be at 11/24 food on t10 rather than 5/24.  I'll be +4 food so early gran grows to size 3 (and a grassland farm) eot 13 with 27/24 food.  15/26 and +5 food t 14.  I would need 5t to grow without the third chip so growth eot 14 with 25/24 food.  T15 20/26 vs 13/26.  eot 17 30/26  and 23/26.  t18  17/28 size 4.

I can complete 2 chops into a settler on t18 for a settler or worker eot 19 or I can grow to size 5 eot 19 and start settler t20.   A plains hill/river mine and a plains/river cottage complete t22. Chops can complete t20/21 or 22.   Check time to tech Math vs Monarchy.

production wise 2nd city builds a 3t scout finishing eot 5.  Worker next, eot 15.  Pasture on Cow done on t10 vs t7 with no chop.  Only shaves 1t off the worker. Unless I take the chop into the worker on t11 which gets the worker done eot 11.

With 3 chop granary t6, the capital finishes a scout eot7 vs eot 11.   3 scouts on the board will give me solid map info early and provide some cheap spawn busters vs barbs once the initial scouting is done.   Tradeoff is 4 worker turns and 4 turns of production and growth in city 2 vs scouting turns + 1t faster setter/worker out of the capital.   I'm leaning towards the delayed granary in favour of the earlier worker but I don't have to decide until t6.

TLDR:  6 turn settler from capital plus some scouts early to get some map knowledge.

RefSteel Wrote:Still keeping up, but I just realized something that could cause a problem (I don't think anyone took this option in PB80, so it just didn't come up) - the way we have to set this up to emulate advanced start in sequential pitboss means that all the advanced start choices have to be edited in via World Builder. For most things, this is fine - but if you choose to add additional population to an existing city, you're supposed to get food in the bin along with it: I think half-way to the next size. But Worldbuilder saves never preserve invested food or production like that; any food would be lost when the game was started. So ... does anyone has a suggestion for a way to work around that or compensate for it in some way? Otherwise, if anyone was planning to jump a city to size 2, you can decide whether you want to reconsider the plan.

If there's no work around I'll still take my picks as posted. Growth curve and micro change but it's still the least bad use of that 33 gold. smile

If I get 11 gold from the forgone food that would leave me with 12 gold to spend.

If this is the case I would like to buy a road on the forested plains tile SW (1 on the keypad) of the Capital. I'm sticking with my other picks. smile
