I've been watching Marbozir here and there, and my impression from his streams is that AI is decently capable of getting high yields, but doesn't really know what to do with them
Civilization 7 is in development

How big is a standard size map? One of the issues with putting buildings directly on the map is that it makes the scale feel very small. Units like slingers being able to attack across a hex just adds to the small feel. I really do not get the impression of a globe-spanning empire; it is more of a local county or two. (I know everything is supposed to be abstract, metropolitan regions, etc. It just feels small.)
It seems like a lot of your choices are "locked in" once you make them. Placing pop to work tiles and such is a one time thing, with no ability to adjust later to respond to changing circumstances. How do you respond to the unexpected? Spend gold to rush buy stuff, I guess? Better keep the treasury full, and keep the gold flowing. Plus gold is apparently the only way to build things in towns, or advance towns to cities. Prioritize gold over food and hammers? From Sullla's second stream: "The dust storm just killed three of my units".
That's a never purchase item right there for me, when you can have your game fucked over through something you cannot control then it is not a game worth playing PS that's a direct quote from one my posts to the youtube video. This "game" can die in a fire for all I care.
Travelling on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.
I have also been watching Sulla's second stream. I am just shaking my head over the state of the UI. Things like some unit actions being hidden on that little pop out tab, so if you want to do certain things it is always going to take extra clicks. The rough terrain thing that Sulla keeps tripping over is also bizarre; I suppose you learn to spot the tile difference eventually, but something that important to movement not being visually obvious is very bad design. And is he just missing some setting to be able to get more info on enemy units, or can you really not see any info about them? The tech and civic trees not showing costs, why? The player needs information to make good decisions, why hide it or split it up into separate screens? Hopefully a lot of these kinds of things will get fixed. But the UI is just bad for a AAA title at this price point.
The dust storm (and events in general) are a negative for me as well. Random events in strategy games are almost always something I turn off. But that is apparently not possible in Civ7. I am surprised by the lack of map options as well, but that is probably going to be another paid DLC. ![]()
It is very much possible to turn off random events, for the record.
I Think I'm Gwangju Like It Here
A blog about my adventures in Korea, and whatever else I feel like writing about.
I believe disasters cannot be turned off though? There are three settings for their level, but they cannot be completely turned off. Or is it incorrect?
So far I'm not hearing anything making me rush out and get it.
Maybe when it gets cheaper. Newest and latest isn't that important for me. I'm doing a nostalgia tour right now with Fallout 1 which is ancient. After that I have a 5+ years old game to wrap up solo.
I started watching Sulla's stream and I do not think I get how experience for leaders work. Am I correct that it carries over from one game to another? Like, if I play Confucious in 10 games, I will be able to play a more powerful Confucious in subsequent games? It sounds completely insane but this is what Sulla seems to be saying. Can anyone confirm this is not the case? I hope it is some misunderstanding on my part. Because if this is how it works, it kills the game right there.
