Hello everyone, if you are not familiar with me, I do lots of graphics modding for CoM, and help others out with that as well occasionally. I am working on my own mods as well. One of these mods is to add playable wizards (complete with their own musical themes and animated portraits) from races that don't have their own to represent them yet. These are all hand drawn using a mouse in (mostly) microsoft paint, and the music is composed from scratch as well. I even try to stay in the 8-bit colour palette of the original game usually!

One thing I've always been terrible at however is naming things, and I need help deciding on a name for this Beastman Wizard. I've come up with a couple, but can't choose between them. So I would greatly appreciate any input you Realms Beyond Bros can give!

I think that the Master of Magic beastmen almost certainly took their main inspiration from Warhammer Beastmen, the Simtex dudes if not actual warhammer players themselves would've atleast ran into it given their predilections I'd assume. The only thing more "Warhammer" than the Beastman race in Master of Magic is "Warrax the Chaos Warrior."

I'd prefer not to use Khazrak if that is a specifically Warhammer name, but I think that "Blackheart" is nebulous enough to not be stepping on any toes, and if that's also a reference to a Warhammer beastman all the better to be honest. Lots of characters in Master of Magic are "don't-sue-us" versions of existing characters from fantasy franchises that they like. ("Kali" for example is based of a character name "Karla", "Oberic is "Elric of Melnibone", etc.)

That might be one of the things that disconnects my characters for this mini-mod from fitting in better with the base game wizards. I'm going for a more generic wizard of that race thing instead of basing them off of pre-existing characters then changing their names to not ruffle any copyright lol.

I'll see if I can figure out how to add Blackheart to the vote. And if other people feel that Khazrak should be on the vote I'll add that one as well. After the Beastman is named I might need to do another poll for the Orc wizard, as I have no idea what to call him lol, so that one will probably be a complete free-for-all.

Oh, thank you. I'll still probably make it a free for all instead of a poll, but atleast those are some to fall back on if nobody can agree on anything.

Maybe for the orc one when I get around to it, everyone after the first two posters will need to throw a vote at their favourite previous suggestion to make theirs valid or something? Not sure how to do it in a way that will make people also vote for each other instead of just suggesting their own.

Hopefully I'll get more bites for the Beastman's name. Lagi previously said in my art thread that Asmodeus was good, but he hasn't voted here yet. And Suppanut might've wanted Baphomet? Still waiting for more votes. So far Slingers is the only ballot caster, which makes him the defacto winner lol.

By the way, do you know how to add more options to a poll? I want to add one of your suggestions to it, but I don't know how?

You're not going to get many votes here; the forum is fairly inactive these days, and you're asking for opinions about something that is, for most people right now at least, fairly inconsequential. Don't mean to be rude, just trying to set reasonable expectations here.

As for the name, I'm fairly indifferent. If you really insisted, I'd probably go with Baphomet?

Asmodeus and Baphomet are Jewish/Christian demon lords. Enkidu and Marduk are Mesopotamian. With such names you are pulling in classical planet Earth mythology, which is okay if it is the start of a theme. But on their own, these names are out of place.
