Anyone still want to get better at Civ 4?

I have been playing Civ 4 for nearly a year now, and I am happy that I am now at a stage where I can play a good to decent game on Prince difficulty.

Given the 'mixed' reception to Civ 5 and the fact that my computer cannot run it, I am aiming to keep enjoying Civ 4 and see if I can conquer at least Monarch on SP.

What I would like to ask is if anyone who is looking to do the same, and would like to do a Succession Game (hopefully a few if the first is successful) with me to get into the swing of Monarch?

There is plenty to read to help us get better, but I think we learn better by doing! With all the high-level players here in this community, I am also sure that they would be able to give us feedback at the end of the game so we can see where we went right and wrong!

So what do you guys think?

Hi TT, I would like to express my interest here (mainly because I would like to try a SG game but I am not at the same level as most of the other experienced people here). I like to think I can handle Monarch but begin to struggle upwards. If you prefer to play with those who find Monarch more challenging that's fine, otherwise I'd be happy to make up the numbers!

Expressing my interest. I can handle Monarch but with a lot of difficulty, and i really want to try and enter a succession team, so if you'll have me i'll join.

I'm more than happy to play with both of you - I am happy to have those who are OK with Monarch but struggle above it.

Glad to hear there is some interest!

I am looking for around 5-6 players but its not a concrete limit if interest is high!

Hey that describes my playing ability perfectly.

Mind if I throw my hat in as wanting to play as well?

I suppose I'd have to register over at CFC....

Excellent - welcome aboard!

And I am hoping we will be allowed to do all our posting on this forum as I prefer it to CFC!

I can do that. I stomp prince without too much though now-a-days, Monarch requires me to be a bit more careful in what I do, or else I don't win (though not ever eliminated).

Alrighty then - that makes 5 so probably just 1 more place if we really need it.

So now we need to think of some of the things we will want in the game

Settings:

Map:

Civs:

Now we could choose all this ourselves, or we could ask another member of the forums to roll a few maps and we go from there.

In that case, all we would need to think about are settings like Huts, Events, Vassals, Tech Trading, Map Size.

Personally I'm thinking about no huts or vassals and a Map Size no bigger than Standard, but I'm not fussed about anything else too much.

Keep in mind that some of these things influence difficulty. For example, Epic+Pangaea+Standard+vassals is at least a full difficulty easier than Normal+Continents+Large+no vassals IMHO.

No Huts, No Vassals sounds good to me. Archipelago plays very differently from the other options. I tend to fractal myself. I guess, how do you define a standard game? If we let community give us a map, I'd request that we get a standard start, nothing rocket hot (gold + watered corn etc.) or really strange (3 sources of seafood, but really really dry land on the rest of our natural expansion zone).
