First tournament!

Wouldn't it take a really long time to conquer every single node on the map? That seems kind of tedious. Besides, you might accidentally miss one, and think you're done when you're really not.

Yeah, I guess that'd be too lengthy a game. And would get tedious near the end. How about a fixed number of nodes to conquer (and hold) instead? How many nodes are there in a normal game?

Thirty. 16 on Arcanus, 14 on Myrror.

How about arcanus nodes counting 1 and myrror nodes counting 2, with 24 points required for victory? First to get 24 points worth of nodes wins. Same starting setup for all players, to keep things manageable. Optionally, let players pick their own race (need to make sure not to mess up home race this time if we do that).

First one to 60 pop wins?

I think that would work fine. Letting people pick their own race would be fun, but you'd have to use some sort of handicap to encourage picking the weaker races.

In the last tournament we had a point system which included both wizard customization and race. Dwarf was the most expensive race, and gnoll was the cheapest. Interestingly, that made both of those extremes very popular.

Chris, pop is an interesting objective too (although 60 would make for a very quick game). I think that could work well in conjunction with other objectives, such as conquest of 6 nodes or research of 4 rare spells.

Another idea for a full or partial victory objective: Reaching power income of 200 (ignoring conjunctions and moons). Also encourages node conquest, combined with expansion. Gives the player more options to choose from.

I kind of don't want to do the population goal, since I feel like it would most just involve building a huge amount of settlers, granaries, and farmers' markets. I like the power income goal, though. Does it count if we're earning 200 gold/turn and turning it all into mana lol?

I like the idea of seeing people use a lot of different races so we can see how the game plays out differently. As a bonus, that gives good insight into the balance between the races. Are gnolls really that bad that they need a big handicap?

I meant power income rather than mana income. I guess I should have put power base to eliminate all confusion smile

Should we have a go at just using that as a criterion? Decide on a wizard setup and let each player pick an arcane race, then race to 200 power?
