Should we have a go at just using that as a criterion? Decide on a wizard setup and let each player pick an arcane race, then race to 200 power?

yeah I know what you meant, I was just joking.

Sure we can try that. I don't know if anyone is actually interested except us though...

Do you have any ideas for a wizard setup? I don't want to use one that's too easy. We could use one of the default wizards, I suppose.

I'm hoping for 4-5 participants, I think that's realistic.

I'd like a multi-colour setup, and for some reason I want to play a conjurer. Without Life, because I find myself using that all the time. How about 4-colour (minus Life) + Conjurer + Archmage + Sage Master? I'm used to focusing a lot on normal units and urban development, so this will be quite a change from my regular pace.

I guess we might as well get it started early and give people a long deadline for finishing it. How about starting it next week and setting the deadline sometime in January?

As for how to set it up, I guess I can make 9 different saves (one for each race) and people just pick whichever is applicable to them.

I suggest starting it on Wednesday, discussion of format will continue until then. Any exploits we should ban to make it more interesting?

Yeah that works for me. Is this going to just be for the basic game, or using the insecticide patch?

As far as exploits go... well if you're going for a multi-color conjurer I can't think of any big exploits you can do. Well, except for save-and-reload, of course, I think it goes without saying that you're not allowed to do that. But we should remind people to take screenshots of their game as they're playing, so they can write up a good report after they're done.

I assume it is Insecticide, which is vanilla game with many bug fixes and improved AI.

I do not know many exploits but I believe we all should follow kinda honor code. It means if we know some harsh exploit, then avoid using them. But all these really depend on the game goal. So what's the goal? If goal were to win fastest, then there could be a restriction that says enemy fortress must be left alone until every other city is destroyed.

Yeah, Insecticide. I'm fine with a rule banning fortress strikes.

I suggest starting it on Wednesday,

I'm fine with this setup.
However, for a Conjurer game, I wouldn't take 4 colors but 2 or 3. Otherwise the magic is spread too thin.
This will be a change from my usual choices as well. I usually focus on heroes.

If you're willing to prepare 9 save games, I'm all for it!

Next wednesday works for me.

Insecticide 1.40h sounds good to me too.

I'm fine with no save-and-reload.

How about difficulty, opponents, land size and magic?
I propose Hard, 4 opponents, Medium land size, and Normal magic.

I propose 2 awards. An award for the one who posts his victory soonest, and an award for the one who has the most victory points which we have yet to define. I prefer not to use the game score for that.

How does that work?
If we have 4 opponents, do we need to destroy every city, and then destroy the fortresses?

I figured more colours would allow for a bit more variety, letting each player take his game in a different direction. But I'll go with what's more popular for the setup, feel free to post an alternative and we can vote.

I'd prefer to go with a single award, don't want to require people to stay home all wednesday to finish this wink And playing fast gets in the way of writing reports.

As for victory points, I'd prefer a simple system for the first game. Whoever reaches a power base of 200 earliest wins. I'm all for expanding the system in later tournaments, last tournament we did on Dragonsword got a bit too complicated too soon IMO.

The rule against fortress strikes would state that you're not allowed to invade a fortress until you've made certain that he has no other cities.

How about removing Summon Hero and Summon Champion from our spellbooks? I've always felt they were cheesy.

So if you haven't explored the entire map yet, but on the visible part there are no cities left. Can you strike the fortress then?

Nooooo, heroes form an important part of the fun.cry
