Corn can show up in the desert SW of Great Plains, too. (Ever heard of the Hopi?)

Corn DOES show graphics in the desert, by the way. It's just a few stalks, though, and perhaps there are some lower graphical settings where it won't show anything? I'm not positive.

It can also be ungodly difficult to detect Wheat in the jungle. (Why is that relevant? Well... Wait and see.)


See, the graphics work like this. Plots that have more total food in them will show more of the plants. A Corn in the desert is in a 0 food tile, and has 1f with the Corn there, so it only shows 1f worth of corn stalks. After you farm it, more food is in the plot, so it shows more stalks. Corn on Plains will show more stalks than on Desert but less than on Grass. Corn on Flood Plains will show even more stalks.

If you are playing Oasis, then just know that it helps to flick on the resource bubbles at some point. Even if you can see the few Corn Stalks on a desert plot, the resource bubbles will make it even easier for you.

I was playing Rhye's world map and there was a rice on a hill next to my city, probably the same one you are talking about (I was playing China). I put a cottage on the tile, because you can't put a farm on a hill tile. It was basically a waste of a resource.

Guess: Next patch will release with some new maps that Sirian created towards the end of the development cycle. One of the 'featured maps' described when Civ4 was released was Fantasy Land (or something akin to this name), which would place resources on entirely inappropriate terrain types -- wheat in jungle, etc. Because of the sudden interest in inappropriate resources, this map heads to the top of the list of use-cases.

Well my graphical settings haven't been tuned down and there isn't even 1 plot of grain in the graphics. I captured that southern town around 300AD and i discovered the resource in +1500AD. Effectively holding me back quite some in that town not to mention the other northern town aswell though oasis map has a lot of floodplains negating that missing growth quite well

I have learned a good lesson though and quite possibly others here aswell. Resource bubbles on globe view before any settler goes anywhere

Anyway, thanks for explaining the thing about more plots showing when it's more effective, though I guess I could have deduced that myself
