Heroes

I must raise anew the question: Heroism on heroes, yes or no?

My vote goes for no, Heroes can't be "more heroic" compared to troopers than they are at level 1. Plus, it spoils the game. You should nurture them into greatness, not cast a one-time spell and roll-over. Plus, if we change the way the experience is gained, the heroes in the first line will raise quickly in levels - good. The heroes in capital will have hard time, which is good as well, it stimulates the non-conservative, adventurous style of play.

I agree, both for thematic and balance reasons. I assume this is fairly easy to change?

Updated the table again, filled in all slots and specials for 0 fame heroes. Please comment!

What happened to Taki?
I thought he was going to have 3 ring slots and Leadership?
And perhaps rename his given name to Kwai Chang Caine (or some anagram)?

And I'd like for the Dwarf to have Leadership instead of Armsmaster.
Btw, can he have an Axe when he's coming by to get hired (say +1 Attack)?

I just did all the 0 fame heroes for now. 3 rings and Leadership is fine by me. Don't know about name change, I kind of like Taki.

I thought the dwarf was a pretty good match for armsmaster thematically, and not so much a leader type. I see dwarves more as drill sergeants than generals.

As mentioned earlier, I want to raise the cost of hiring or summoning heroes in addition to making it more likely heroes will drop by. If it's possible, should we tinker about with the concept of restricting heroes so only one wizard can have a hero?

Would dead heroes be out of the hero pool, too? Because I could see the total pool of heroes drying up real quick given the AI's propensity to use them very poorly.

Hmm, I know increasing the number of things like spells is way to much work to be worth it, but is the hero list something that could be expanded with little pain? Because I like the idea of one hero pool for aesthetic purposes, but I'm worried about the problems it might cause.

How about simply putting dead heroes back into the pool, with the restriction that a wizard can't re-hire a hero he lost? Would also make the weaker heroes more interesting, and would encourage you to tactically take out enemy heroes in order to improve your own recruiting.

What about resurrection? You could get duplicate heroes at that point.

Yeah, it's not perfect. Still, my motivation for this isn't thematic. I just think it'd be cool to have some aspect of uniqueness to heroes for gameplay reasons.

Within my suggestion, Resurrection could be handled in one of three ways:
1a) Allow dead heroes to be resurrected whether they have been rehired or not. Resurrected heroes may not be rehired.
1b) Allow dead heroes to be resurrected whether they have been rehired or not. Resurrected heroes may be rehired.
2a) Allow dead heroes to be resurrected only if they have not been rehired. Resurrected heroes may not be rehired.
2b) Allow dead heroes to be resurrected only if they have not been rehired. Resurrected heroes may be rehired.

Last one is nonsense of course, just including it for completeness sake smile
