PBEM 5D - Map and Lurker Thread

It's a small map though, not tiny, but i think it's interesting enough. I'll just fix it up a little bit more, set the civ/leader and it'll be ready.

Edit: Due to a map error, i've changed it back to tiny (I did not set the civ/leader last time). It's ready now, if you guys want to take it. It'll be quite a wild ride.

Well, this is the very first map i've created, but i hope it's good enough for their liking. Firstly, an overall view of the map (one half).

As you can see, quite fertile. I've added a lot of rivers, a few flood plains, took out most of the desert, and well, generally made the land better.

Starting area:

On a plains hill, as is usual. 2 Flood plains, Pigs, and Gems. Along with Horses when it appears. 4 Forests to chop, should be enough for a key wonder.

Now looking at the bottom part.

On the far end of the map, there is a flood plains area. Along with Coal i guess, but i don't expect it to matter much in the game.

Towards the middle is a Tundra area rich in resources. Two deers, a fur, Crabs, and Copper, all Forested. I made the sea big enough for naval battles, especially to ambush that copper city. At first i had a strip of ice below, but that made the water too small for naval battles, so i changed it to pure water.

Top part of the map furthest from the middle.

A few resources, and jungle to hack off. Btw, there is a rice there below the Banana. Btw, i really love lakes. There's an iron here for emergency purposes.

Top part, in the middle.

Quite a lush area, with a River, Corn, Iron and Horses. However, they can't get the best of both worlds, thus needing two cities i think.

In the middle, there's a sea. It's big enough for naval combat, has two luxuries (wine/whales), along with clams and fish. (I replaced the fish on the right after looking at the screenshot and realizing there's something wrong).

And the true middle part of the map.

At the top of it, we have a lush jungle full of stuff. However, it doesn't have hills, so once those jungles are cut down, it's a killing ground. Rice Dye and Sugars makes this place worth fighting for.

At the bottom, we have a desert. Double incense, Gold, and Oil (lol). It's supported by Cows, Sheeps, and an Oasis. There are two hills in the middle for maneuvering, but those same hills provide vision across.

And finally, the civ and leader choice.

If you all noticed, the metals are really hard to reach, and yet there are Horses. And thus, the civlization is the Maya, mainly for the Holkans (resourceless spears). I expect a battle full of Horses and Spears only.

For the leader, we have Catherine. Imp / Cre. Imp means they can settle a lot of cities, Cre means those cities will be quite protected by culture. It's needed for a lot of culture wars, top, middle, and bottom. I hope this all works out in practice.

Well, that's it. It's been fun working on this map, but well, tiring at times. I had to double check, triple check, and quantiple check all the time. And even at the end there were a few mistakes until i looked at it correctly.

Also, i hate mirror maps >< Resources keep disappearing accidently, i once had a lion in the middle of the sea, and i have to keep checking back and front to spot errors or mistakes (i sent three saves to Twinkle, because the first two had errors).

Neat map smile Props for hand-drawing most (all?) of it.

I can't tell exactly from the pictures, but are there any resources at all in the southern ice, or the rectangular lakes on the furthermost right/left that border it?

Nope, there are no resources in there. By now the map is big enough, so i decided to cover it with ice/water :P (It'll just be repeated resources there).

Very nice map! How did you make it? Like did you generate a Lakes Mirror map and edit it from there? I'm guessing even from there that this map was heavily hand drawn... How much time did this take?

Scooter: First i rerolled Lakes Mirror map a lot of times. Lol. The one thing i wanted was that they start in the middle of their halves, and that it wasn't all desert. Once i got that it was time to work.

I drew in a lot of stuff, took me about 3 hours before the base map was complete. My original small map actually had 4 middle battlegrounds, including a snow-based area with marble at the bottom. Since this is tiny however that took too much space, so it was scrapped. I drew in a lot of resources, way a lot. Mirror maps had very little ><

I started from the middle, adding the peaks, desert, jungle, and water. Resources were quite natural based upon their positions, gold at the desert for example. I moved to the start area next, then focused on the rest.

The Copper/Deer/Fur area was handdrawn, it was actually all ice. Same as the sea below. At the top i removed almost all ice and drew in the rest.

The FloodPlains area was handdrawn, and i drew in a lot of rivers as well. Some mistakes here in the first draft was having desert without FP, or FP without desert (Hilarious, a 5 Food 1 Commerce Tile unimproved).

I had to edit many areas to try and make it show that it wasn't edited, like putting plains and grassland together. Some places i edited just to make it more natural. Looking back, i haven't tested whether the top area supports naval combat, but it has 20 tiles, and if i remember correctly that's the minimum needed to consider it a sea.

I scattered a lot of Horses around, as having a lack of Copper/Iron to work with made things really difficulty. Horses were quite good replacement on grasslands, so that it wasn't so barren.

Yes, Mirror is just a really barren script, needs a ton of work to get it so lush like that. I really like the extra touch of the northern and southern lakes, I believe they will both be just big enough to put boats on them, so potential boatings could happen on those lakes.

The only oddities I could spot was a plains rice in the middle of the map and a grassland wheat up in the upper right hand corner of the map wink.
