[SPOILERS] vanrober learning from GKC far from home of each otherr

Hello lurkers in general, but particulary you, General!

Im excited about this new adventure at CTH and i hope to get more than 90 turns hehehe.

In principle, I ll be only in this pitboss so i have the time to post more, I ll try to writte every single turn of the game with the detail that my english allows me.

Let's see if we finally snake pick or random pick to get some thoughts about, even though i think its not going to be a good decision until we see the starting that Commodore gives us.

Quote:Players
1. Miguelito
2. Mjmd
3. Naufragar
4. superdeath
5. Amicalola
5. Elkad
6. Ruff-Hi
7. Vanrober
8. El Grillo
9. giraflorens
10. Barbarian
11. MrCairo
12. scooter

So I dont really know the people we are playing with.

Miguelito, i saw he played pb 49, but i didnt read that pb, everyone says that it was tight, but i dont know much more. He got eliminated. He plays on inmortal he said.

Mjmd, he is green and makes mistakes, but he is doing a good job on PB52 i think. On PB51 he almos got killed.

Naufragar, he played some games (i didnt read any of them) and he was the dedlurker of Gira in PB51, I guess he is vet.

Superdeath, he played several games too, so i guess he is vet.

Elkad, he played a lot of games so i guess he is vet too.

Ruff hi, 126 threads created, so im not going to read hahaha i guess he is vet too

Me, well, pretty unexperienced, winning on monarch before PB51 and after PB52 and all your advices i won on Emperor too (once xD) So i ll need help, much help xD

ElGrillo, one of the vet of PB51, he took Amicalola before turn 50 on that game. Dedlurking mjmd on pb52.

Gira, a friend outside this forum, and a noob like me, i think he plays on the same dificulty level as me, so i nice neighbout to have hehehe.

Barbarian, no info at all

MrCairo, he is not posting much on PB52 and something more on PB53 and thats all i know from him. I know he played some more games too so i put him in the vet category.

Scooter, i like how he post in PB53 and its my favourite on that game just for that reason. I think he plays good and also he is a vet.

If you want to warn me of someone or give me some more info i would apreciate.

And i think thats all for today!

I'll try to break down the opponents. I'd like to hear your thoughts on what you'd like to play, given this map will be small and cramped. Probably a lot of lessons to take from PB49 and PB53.

Vanrober (and me) - This is going to be my first CtH game and I'm interested in how this will go. Let's do our best, sim our start, do micro, think our moves through and make use of all our opportunities.

Top Players
1. Mr. Cairo - passive but dangerous. He plays to survive and he succeeds, and sometimes, if he survives just long enough, he wins - pb43.
2. scooter
3. Miguelito - Rusten dedlurker is the real threat, and played a good game in 49.

Possible threats
1. Ruff-Hi - old player returning, played a good game in PB49. A bit pushy and puts a lot of thought into the game.
2. Superdeath - aggressive player, at this point more by reputation than fact. Has progressed as a player with every pitboss.
3. El Grillo - 2nd place in PB51, and doing a good job helping MJMD in PB52.
4. Mjmd

Known quantities:
1. Elkad - kind of a casual player, but knows what he's doing. Won't spend too much time on micro, but invading him will be costly. He can make aggressive moves, so we shouldn't discount him. Probably not a gamewinner, though.
2. Naufragar - His PB44 struggle with superdeath was a hilarious spiral to the death for both of them. He managed to recover towards the end. Not sure how I feel about his PB88 on civforum.de - overall though, an aggressive player, who likes to make a plan and follow it.
3. giraflorens - Not overly impressed with his PB51 (although, succeeded at grabbing stonehenge and repelling my attacks a few times), but has probably learned lessons from 51/52.
4. Amicalola

Unknowns:

As you know from PB52, i ve had (we if count gira) trouble getting the cities spot properly and as i knew it, in PB51 i run a Cre, maybe a mistake since its BTS, but the thing now, being in a tight map and with the Fin nerfed in CTH, it might be a good trait.

I though something Cre/Pro like Gilga, to grant protection money and culture. But as you said, i should start reeading the PB49 (the PB53 is all time read hehehe) to learn some of the tricks and thoughts. I ll do it this weekend i hope i have time enough.

I need to learn soo much about micro, i usually play without moving citicens too much, and its almost imposible to think about GP, so ill try to listen to your advices as much as i can. But yeah i ll try my best to sim everything and post it ,so you get all info required.

I ve already read all the thread of FT of PB49, and it seems pretty important to have a good army lead, and i think a early game civ and trades would be the call.

But im unsure of which to chose.

Finally its snake pick which i prefer since i might get something closer of what i want, and as a noob i wouldnt feel confortable playing some traits/civs.

Early civs i would feel confortable (but open to more sugestions):

-Zulu, their ikandas makes expanding easier and those impis could really hold any moy sh they could do on me. [It might be a bit pesimistic but i feel really limitated on sakill so im thinking more of not losing first than on wining] Also those Impis could be used to rush someone since we would start with hunting and should look on to BW as soon as possible to chop some settlers, and settle on copper.

-Mongolia, those HA and Ger are sooo damn good, if we are looking for some rush they could be a nice choice.

-Mali, if we are going Pro, those Skirmishers could even do a good job on a rush (Not a spoiler i think at this time that ramk did to me on PB51) Also the mint are a nice UB.

-Egypt, i think this would be for me the worst choice of this civs, i dont really like the UB but his UU could be a good rusher unit (Like ElGrillo did on PB51)

Maybe i should focus more on the UB than the UU to get a good economy first? For example the Incas choice as FT i feel worse in this mod, but maybe Aztecs? That UB will allow me to "permawhip" if we chose a Cha leader too, and his UU got a bit buffed.

I still see the Gilga choice as a good one Since it has the 2 traits i think i like more in this mod. I gues Gilga of Mali would be my choice.

With Mongolia i would like more Cata since the imp trait would give 100% to our ger, and also faster settlers. I really like this one too, but it wont have as money as the other choice.

With the Zulu i would try Kublai again as in PB51,  cheaper ikhandas and impis with strength looks nice and also getting the Cre.

Maybe i dont need Cre that much it got nerfed in this mod and maybe with yor help i can handle the early game and cities spots. I just feel confident with it but i guess i also need to learn to play other things.

So in that case, i like the Cha trade, the Spi is something i have always wanted to play but never felt really confy with it, (again, maybe with your help it gets better), and Exp even though it has no longer worker bonus, getthing granaries faster is always nice.

The Phy and Ind trades i feel not good at them, i won't build wonders prob (too much micro needed i think) and i feel that Phy is not as good as the others (but maybe it is in a better hands) And finally Fin, its nerfed but i wouldnt mind to play it, just thinking it wont make the early game diff we migth need in a small map, Obv the best later game trade i think.

Charismatic is nice on smaller maps, where happy is a problem since you might only get one luxury. I still think fin is quite playable.

Don't want org on a small map or monarch.

Cha/Imp Mongolia would be good, with a stables bonus, a bonus to the early settlers we'll need to build, and give us enough happy for early game whips.

In order of preference for this game:
Top tier:
Cre, Cha

Second Tier:
Fin, Exp, Pro, Imp

Third Tier:
Agg, Spi, Phi

Not interested:
Org, Ind

So It seems nice to me to try Cyrus as PB52 with mongolia. I just need to think this game will be better

We ll see what position on the snake picks we get and then think what to pick first. And see second options just in case.

Imp/Exp to pair with Khmer?
Hannibal of Maya for a ton of happiness?

Definitely Joao is always a good option hehehe, i ve never think of Khemer because ive always seen aqueducts a bit useless until lategame. But their phants are nice and still 8 power on this mod.

And i would rather prefer Churchill vs hanibal since i could get money still and also grant some safety. But maybe hight pop would mean more cottages to work, and might make more sense to go hannibal.

But i think we have a lot of possibilities already!

Thanks GKC
