wow - this came together fast.

I might have a partner that I can blame for all of my bad play.  That will be nice.

Any thoughts on picks?  Don't worry about any civ that has late UU or UB ... games never get that far.

Naming convention is based on the word-of-the-day ... for some reason that escapes me, I get a word of the day email ... each and every bloody day.  Cities will be named based on the latest word of the day email.

I am not a strong player but I do have a decent amount of time to set up sand boxes or calculate stuff.

As for picks, my amateur opinion is that neither UB nor UU are really that impactful and traits are more important. Possible exception might be India's fast worker.

I haven't played India for ages ... that is certainly an option.

Re your traits are more important ... the last game I picked in (54), everyone else picked a civ first ... I picked for traits which implies that everyone else prefers UU / UB over traits.

But what do they know?

I would have to play some test games with the new CTH to really say for sure. CHA looks good but that depends a bit on the map. Other traits I'd pick are FIN, EXP, IMP, CRE maybe PRO with the changes. CRE is not necessarily strong but I like how it plays. ORG is another one I like but on Monarch costs may be too low for it to be worth it. I wouldn't consider AGG, SPI, IND; PHI only with a solid plan in mind.

Thinking about it I can see how the pick preference for Civs came about. The CTH traits do appear better balanced than in BTS. With 52 choices you can always get something strong and appropriate while there only so many Ballista Elephants and Cataphracts in the world.

Note that I have been slanting my picks to tech and war. It seems that winning the game involves winning the tech race and fighting.

Traits and my view on them for MP ...
  • Aggressive
    Pretty obviously good if you are planning to do fighting.  The lift to build the barracks is nice.  Need to check if this mod gives culture to barracks.

  • Creative
    Really useful for initial city planting ... don't have to worry about border pops

  • Expansive
    Lift to workers and Granary - useful

  • Financial
    Tech boost

  • Industrious
    Hmm ... I very rarely build wonders in MP

  • Organized
    Some savings on expenses ... really helps later in the game

  • Philosophical
    See my comment about wonders ... run Scientist for Academy and that is about it

  • Spiritual
    You would think this will save you lots and lots of turns
    It doesn't ... one when you flip to slavery ... not very little other change to jump civics as you are typically dead by then

  • Imperialistic
    Initial expansion bonus and GGS

  • Protective
    Fun but who wants to defend?

  • Charismatic
    Bigger cities and more fighting
