Lurking the Seven Seas

The map is (finally) attached.

If anyone can give it a look over I'd appreciate it.

I still have some concerns about each of the 4 team positions, but I figure that's always going to be the case with an asymmetric map. So it's probably time for me to let it go and see what fresh eyes think.

No Auckland (or Nan Mandol).

How do I actually load this map in-game?

I have the map in the folder

C:\Users\benqu\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves\WorldBuilder

Then I click Worldbuilder on the main menu in game -> load map and it shows up.

All right, got it open. Thanks.

Where are the start positions going to be? There seem to be five large land masses that could conceivably support a team.

You can see the start positions if you turn on the advanced tab. It's the city symbol in this screenshot.

The landmass in roughly the centre of the minimap does not contain any teams, the other 4 - top, bottom, left and right of the mini-map are the 4 home continents.

Thanks for looking at it williams!

Ahh, got it. Tiny little city icons. Some thoughts:

- The western continent seems to have more good land than the others
- The eastern and western continents have easier/more obvious access to city states than the others
- The Northern and especially Southern continents have more tundra and desert than the other two, including in the second and third rings of the capital. It looks, dare I say it, Canadian? mischief Gut check is that north is fine, south needs some help.

- Is the northernmost start on the western continent actually on fresh water? That river looks very odd.
- There's a very wide range in whether capitals have access to which strategic resources, and if so in what ring.
- Capital locations are probably fine? None are amazing, none are terrible. The only five foodhammer tile in easy reach is the marsh sugar, western start on the southern continent, and that site looks food rich, production starved even without a marsh on the tile. That is definitely the start location I would be least happy with on this map considering all the snow down there. Western start, northern continent is the other one I probably wouldn't like very much, only two 4 foodhamer tiles in the first two rings.

- I agree on the western continent. I thought their overseas opportunities were slightly weaker than the other 3 starts so I thought it might even out.

- There are 2 CS per team within 1 tile of their home continents and 6 CS roughly halfway between home continents. I'll move Valletta and Hong Kong a bit closer to the starting locations so they'll be easier to find though.

-The southern continent is home to the Russia team, so I tried to make the tundra useful for them by adding hills and forests instead of rewriting it. I'll go back and give it a little bit more food though to be sure they can use it. I also felt the northern continent is the weakest, so I added the extra islands off the south coast. I'll see about buffing them a little bit further. Btw I also added Tsingy and the Eye of the Sahara to 'redeem' a bit of this dead land.

-Regarding strat resources, I made sure there were 4 of each on every home continent, and didn't worry too much about what ring they were in. I figure with a coastal map we won't see any rushes anyway.

-I did some start normalisation so hopefully they're pretty close without being mirrored. Good catch on the sugar, I thought it was a rice. The rivers look ok to me. The western start on the northern continent has 2 other 4 yield tiles in the tea and the turtles. One of the yields is a beaker instead of a food-hammer but I think that's fine.
