Building1 and Building2 in Units.ini

Seravy, can you please help me decode how "building1=" and "building2=" work in Units.ini?

Is there a legend for this system? What are they for?

It SEEMS like for heroes at least, building2= the number of random picks they get.

building1 makes no sense unless it is a unique sum of some sort.

Appreciate your time as always.

It's the two buildings required to build that unit. The numbers correspond to the same building IDs as in the DOS version except for the two new buildings, ranging from 3 to 37.
In case of heroes, building1 is their portrait ID. Building 2 is... I actually don't remember. Their random picks are in the hero data table though. Definitely not that, I see 3 for the Sage and that hero most definitely doesn't get 3 random abilities, it's a tier 0 hero.
I couldn't find a reference to either of these fields in the windows version source code for hero units. It's probably leftover unused data from the DOS version, or possibly even from the original MoM.

Here's the building list from CoM 1:

Code:
Nr BuildingName
  3 Barracks
  4 Colosseum
  5 Fighters Guild
  6 Armorers Guild
  7 War College
  8 Smithy
  9 Stables
10 Animists Guild
11 Fantastic Stable
12 Ship Wrights Guild
13 Magic Market
14 Maritime Guild
15 Sawmill
16 Library
17 Sages Guild
18 Oracle
19 Alchemists Guild
20 University
21 Wizards Guild
22 Shrine
23 Amplifying Tower
24 Parthenon
25 Cathedral
26 Marketplace
27 Bank
28 Merchants Guild
29 Granary
30 Farmers Market
31 Foresters Guild
32 Builders Hall
33 Mechanicians Guild
34 Miners Guild
35 City Walls

As for building2 for heroes, it's the hero type in the DOS versions (0 - fighter, 1 - archer, 2 - fighter/caster, 3 - caster). It determines their equipment slots and the type of random picks they can get.

Thank you drake178. That makes a lot of sense. I did try editing building2 for a few heroes just to see what would happen in CoM4Wv1.05 but no effect. I don't think the slots or picks are exposed in that version yet.

Are you sure? It wouldn't do anything to existing heroes. The slots are set when the hero appears for hire IIRC (they are saved into the hired hero records individually), while the abilities are randomized in the world generator (so will apply only when you start a new game).
