[PB61 Spoilers] JesseL's First PB Game

[Other players in PB61 stay out of this thread after the game starts.]

I have played single player BTS extensively. I always play on Noble as I do not like it when the AI in any game gets extra bonuses over the human player. They should just get smarter as you increase the difficulty. I am new to multiplayer other than playing a few times with friends. I see we have to download the Close to Home mod. I am a fan of vanilla BTS, but this mod looks great except for a few things:

Barbarians were toned down. I usually play on raging barbarians so I am not a fan of this change. If barbarians are a problem then you need more military. Why can't I raze a barbarian city? Barbarian cities sometimes spawn in bad locations so I will raze them and settle in a better location.

The events system was gutted. I like playing with events on for variety and storytelling, so this is pretty bad. Why not just leave it in, as there is the option to turn it off? Events balanced the slavery civic because there was a chance of slave revolts. Old World has become my new favorite civ-like game for the ancient and classical era because of its event system.

Gutted the AP. Why? No more crusades I guess. No more religious victory either.

Jungle cannot grow on resources. Why not? Better improve it early, build a road there, or get Ironworking.

First of all CtH is mainly a MP mod. Here at RB a lot of people do not like RNG in their multiplayer games, so a lot of changes are rooted in that. If there would be a good way to eliminate all RNG including combat, people would most likely want it.

With barbarians are toned down you mean the game options available, right? The trend here at RB is trending towards 'no barbs', because of the luck factor. I added the two options to counter that trend somewhat. I personally like playing with barbs although not raging.

The removed events are an inherited change from RtR, the mod that lead me to create CtH. I never bothered to touch events again, because we rarely with events here. With Singleplayer I too play with events, but I removed the most unfair. I also play Singleplayer with all quests on and available to everybody, which is great.

Most AP votes were removed back in RtR, because they were deemed unfair or in case of the victory being too cheesy. I think there are ways to incorporate those back in a balanced way, but for most people here they don't want to bother with it anymore.

Yes, there are ways to prevent jungle growth. This change is mainly in there because jt happened to often that a map maker placed a grasland pig near a jungle, with no way for the player to prevent growth other then sticking their scout on the pig.

Similarly we see the trend for 'no war weariness', which I also don't like as this takes another balancing lever away for me.

I brought those issues up because this mod looks great and I will probably play single player with it. The jungle growth does not matter really I was just being nitpicky. If you are thinking on updating the mod, a more robust AP, events, and the option to raze barbarian cities would be nice.

You can raze barbarian cities. They just don't raze your cities.

Ah I misunderstood you. Civac is right, barbs don't raze or even autoraze your cities

I usually do not play with unrestricted leaders, so the draft will be interesting.

Once you've played with unrestricted leaders you can't go back again. smile

JesseL, here is your starting location. Beware of the danger of gazing into the fog, anything outside of the BFC of where you settler is can possibly change before the map is finalized.
