[PB90] Lurking Deity lvl Crazy People

Someone has to create this!

It feels like whoever delayed settling their capital for the 2nd ring fish just gets a huge advantage with this start. Also, so much plains UCK! I guess its kind of interesting to have a map to race off an island, but also kind of boring because that is the only strategy. Maybe a slightly bigger starting island would have made it more interesting (ie room to expand without needing sailing).

slightly bigger island would probably result in less options (no sailing)

It's interesting to read about priorities, some want to try sailing first instead of bronze and some debate about second city on the island or right on the next landmass.
(personally, I'm glad to just read :D )

In my mind there is 0 reason not to go bronze working first. In order to get both a galley and settler out timely it just makes sense. Also, what else is your worker doing otherwise? Assuming you are going BW first I think it 100% makes sense for 2nd city on island. Between trade routes, tile sharing, and extra build queue seems like a no brainer. Also, with timing most people are estimating T50 ish sailing, which works out for 3rd settler even with delayed timing due to slow start (no plains hill or similar).

I would tend to agree, but I really want people to go sailing first just for the fun of seeing something different.

I haven't played enough deity to know, but I guess one argument could be that the fillers on the island are so expensive they'll take ages to pay back their worth relative to going straight overseas? But I doubt thats valid.

The other obvious reason to go BW and get a second city settled is just literally that copper is likely to be on the main island and is a high yield tile. With copper you then have 4 good tiles to work. With whipping it makes sense to have a 2nd city around to make sure all 4 of those tiles are always being worked.

I'm quite curious to see how good whipping is with this start. If you settle a 2nd city then each one only has 1 5-yield food resource, which doesn't exactly scream 'whip me!'

I would assume you give both food to same city initially until you set up a whip timer. Not ideal, but with low happy cap still seems profitable.

Mig thinks that pottery before BW is better. That is interesting. I'm excited to see how that plays out. Usually you don't get to do that because you need a lot of worker techs / need safety of BW. But on tiny island, maybe will pay off?

I would believe it. Not a whole lot to chop forests into pre-Sailing here.

Edit: I also think Mig raises an interesting point about barbarians. The RB players might be in for a rude shock once they make landfall onto the larger islands (continent?) and metal barbs start swarming.

I'm assuming since Ginger's copper is overseas that everyone's will be. One of my arguments for a 2nd city mainland was the tile yield for it, so I think that is now less clear.

I am still excited that Pottery first with a 2nd on island city is at least viable it looks like.
