Can I force a game to have a particular set of wizards?

As in, for example, if I choose 4 players, and then want the three opponents to be Ariel, Sharee and Freya, can I do it? I'm willing to hex edit my saves to do this if possible, and I think being able to choose specific opponents would be useful for testing.

There is a script file where you can add a rule that forces a reroll of wizards.
Make the rule based on what books these three normally play.

something like "there has to be one wizard with 8+ Nature books, one wizard with 4+ Death and Chaos books, and one wizard with 8+ Life books". Unless you get an extremely unusual roll, these will always take the portraits you wanted.

Don't make it too restrictive though, trying to roll 13 specific wizards might take literally forever.

I see. Would the game have problems rolling, say, 9 specific opponents this way?

Probably.
If you want it to be that specific, you're better off overwriting the default generated data entirely using SETBOOK and SETRETORT in that script file.
